Number one in venice but not actually a restaurant to dine in. Almost a hole in the wall that is opposite MGallery hotel papadopoli and you can eat with the locals, sit on the steps of the Tolentini canal and enjoy the most beautiful fresh panini crusty bread roll filled with pork or salami or ham for 1 Euro!! And... More

Found this spot by coincidence - and was really happy to have a glass of wine, some snacks and a nice talk near the canal!

We arrived to Venice at 13h, full of hungry and 100m away from the bus stop was an outstanding wellcome for only 6€ for two persons. Great sandwiches, all of them, i recommend the stracchino with olive paste and pancetta with artichoke, accompanied by excellent glasses of wine. The location is also beautiful, as it is in a square, near... More

My Boyfriend and I chose the place because of the reviews. We were very courious about it, but it was not what we expected. Probably we arrived the wrong time, we could not get any food there. We got some wine, it was very cheap, but not that good...

but indeed you are not, although one feels immediately welcomed and not as a stupid tourist. The wine is ok, but it´s not the number of Parker Points (I suppose null:-)) why you go there. It´s the atmosphere and the incredible low prices. never got a small glass of Chardonnay for,70 (seventy!!!) Euro-Cents. and the stylish Aperol-Spritz is offered for... More

Small and crowded winery where you can get great sandwiches and an acceptable glass of Prosecco. Most of the customers are "locals" and you can appreciate the typical atmosphere of a Venice...don't miss it!

This little place in every way lived up to the hype. It's a bit hard to find, but once you round the corner into the square you will instantly recognize it from the line of people waiting to squeeze in to order those delicious sandwiches. The bread is fresh, the cheese and cured meats thick, and there are several varieties... More

We stopped here for lunch. There were about 60 college-aged kids outside enjoying their lunch. We joined them and enjoyed sandwiches and wine. Great lunch- cheap and tasty.

We had a wonderful afternoon sitting next to this place, outside in the sun enjoying very nice paninis and wine. This place is hip and happening! And very affordable.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
