L'Osteria San Barnaba has good Venetian style fish dishes. We had spaghetti con vongole (spaghetti with clams), spaghetti with squid ink, and also a fettuccini Bolognese (not Venetian.) We finished up the dinner with biscotti and Zibbibbo, a desert wine. The restaurant has a warm, friendly atmosphere AND is open on Sunday.

This osteria is tucked away down Calle Lunga San Barnaba, but is not difficult to locate. It was quite busy when I visited, mainly tourists with a sprinkling of locals. I think the food is of a reasonable standard and the service is helpful and attentive. I had two fish dishes (scallops, followed by bream), which I thought were well-cooked... More

This is a pleasant low key restaurant with good fish and meat menus for lunch. They also have a good Carte. Nice sea bass well prepared and cooked to order - not overcooked. Reasonable prices for a full lunch meal.

...it might be a little bit better. I mean, food was good, we had garganelli al pesto, tagliatelle agli scampi and sarde in saor; the menu is quite touristic with a lot of generical choices. but it was done properly. Wine list is lowe average and the prices are not so friendly. staff is nice but a little bit pushing.... More

Had risotto and it was just OK. The first wine we had was so bad we had to send it back. The panna cotta was so set it was inedible. Don't bother.

Our family had a very delicious, well priced and generous portion dinner on 31 December. We were accommodated for a later sitting and the service and atmosphere in the osteria were excellent. We were very happy with everything especially as this evening can be problematic in major tourist destinations. We were staying in the San Barnaba vicinity and it looked... More

Brusque unfriendly service and salty, overcooked pasta swimming in mediocre sauce - 66 euros for four plates of pasta and a glass of wine - not worth the money.

The appetizer and desserts were fine. The entrees were mediocre. the appetizer was ravioli stuffed with sea bream, shrimp, and asparagus, with tomato sauce. Very good. I had lamb chops and potatoes; my wife had salamon with grilled zucchini. For desserts we had a delicious creme brulee and apricot tart. Maybe other entrees might be better. These were not as... My friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant as we were walking back home from a tour so we were starving! This is a very cosy corner restaurant which is typical of Venice however I would say that unlike alot of the other so-called italian / venetian restaurants the food was very good. Typical Venetian food, is seafood (not Pizza... More

We came here twice. The first time was good & we had the set menu. Actually there are two -- one meat-based, the other fish-based (18 euros for two courses). The food was straightforward but good -- nothing fancy -- and the house wine was delicious. The waitress who served us was absolutely lovely. Several nights later we went back... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
