Their strong suite is seafood. We ordered the branzino, or sea bass, baked in salt and it was better than the night before. We were served a complementary starter – bruschetta with anchovies. The pasta servings are large so we shared the linguini with shrimp and scallops which they split for us in the kitchen. Service was well paced and... More

We ate here in September as a romantic anniversary dinner. We had a lovely table outside on the campo, it is in an excellent and central location. Both the food and the service were really excellent. My main of the mixed deep fried seafood was enormous by London standards!

On a recent trip to Venice we were recommended this place by the hotel. we went as a family with children aged 9 to 13. It is on a pretty little square where you can sit at one of the outside tables and watch the world go by or inside where the décor is quite modern, unlike many restaurants in... More

We had a terrific dinner at Acquapazza which was just down the block from our hotel. Although it was a dark & dreary night, we got a warm welcome from the polite staff. Although it didn't look like much from the outside, the starched linens, classical column & dramatic lighting transformed the place. The waiter brought us a tiny rice... More

We went there for dinner. The food was expensive, and the service was slow. We ordered a beer and water, and were drinking it when the waiter came to take our order. The first thing he told us was that we would be charged 5 Euro each just to order food. We asked him, Okay, can we just have our... More

Sitting on the piazza on a warm evening with impeccable formal service and spectacular seafood is a complete privilege. Not the cheapest restaurant, even for Venice, but worth every bean. Excellent advice on wine and desert. Hard to do better for seafood, even in this distinctly maritime town.

This place was right near our hotel. It has Neapolitan style pizza and dishes in a lovely outdoor piazza that is away from the tourist crowds. Good gelato and shops nearby. Right off Grand Canal near Rialto bridge.

We thought that this restaurant, being a good walk away from St Mark's square, would have been reasonably priced. It looked nice so we sat at a table. I soon saw the prices. Wow! The couple on the next table started smoking like chimneys and it was all coming our way. My partner complained and we were moved to another... More

See my other review under Acqua Pazza. Salty food, poor service and no local regional wine. Acqua Pazza lacking content

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
