On a side street. Surprising decor. Excellent service. If you are looking for a delightful place , not touristy, this is your spot. Loved every minute of it. Great maître D, Paul I think? Hilarious. The room we sat in was an "old stable". Love those tidbits! Not a wide spread-out room but cozy and romantic. Would love more if... More

Hi there Barbara B Thanks for your lovely words. It was such fun meeting you and laughing together. I'm sure you'll remember those words we were talking about - just be careful how you use them! Thanks also for your comment re the full bar - it is something I'm working on - given that we have such limited space... More

I was very excited to see the new look of San Niccolo 39 which was the ex-Pilipepe in San Niccolo (note that Florentines almost always refer to a restaurant as what it used to be for locational reference). Just walking inside you have the feeling of being in a modern, contemporary bistro but which still has a cozy atmosphere. Take a... More

The place is very nice, close to Porta San Niccolò, obtained by a fine restoration of an old space. the staff is very kind and helpful, at the end even the chef came to assure everything had been ok. Refined dishes with original arrangement. Quality adequate to the price.

Dear Paolo P Thanks for taking the time to review us. We are about to change into a new more interesting phase and will become "San Niccolò 39" from September. The menu will reflect many of today's tastes offering fish, meat and also vegetarian dishes. The staff team is great, young and professional. Come and see us again. Regards Paul... More

Just a little off the usual tourist trail is this delightfully un-spoiled area of San Niccolo...home to unique artisanal shopping, great dining & friendly wine bars--fascinating history too boot! Open for just on two years now, Ristorante Filipepe has a delightfully decorated interior fitout as might be expected in a far more lugubrious address...& then add utterly professional service coupled... Dear John Thanks for the review - I don't think we met when you came for dinner - I arrived to take over the place just afterwards. We are now called San Niccolò 39 or SO39 as we like to call it. I hope that when you return to Florence you'll look us up again - we'll still have the... More

This restaurant. Is a little way out from the centre of Florence but still within walking distance - it is well worth seeking out it out because it is a good seafood restaurant with helpful and friendly staff. Just beware that the fish is sold by weight and you can be surprised by the eventual price.

We came across this place on a night when we looking for a change of pace from the usual pasta places. What we found was a casually elegant restaurant with attentive service and wonderful seafood. We selected a catch of the day from a selection of fish that was brought out and presented to us at the table. We got... More

Restaurant on the other side of the river of the old town. Super fresh seafood. Try the raw plate, perfect start of the dinner. Naples brought over to Florence.

Having frequented this gorgeous restaurant for many years we were excited to try it with new owners and more of a Fish Restaurant approach. It certainly is a lovely fish restaurant, food is very good, great wine list, terrible dessert, great dessert wine list, digestives and good coffee. Although there really is nothing at all creative, innovative or exciting about the food.... More

Dear sir/madam We are very sorry to read that you were not completely satisfied with your experience at Filipepe. But we appreciate all the positive things you mentioned (lovely place, good food, great wine list, great dessert, great dessert wine list...) Regarding the lack of innovation or creativity: it's a choice of our chef not to offer a creative cuisine.... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
