My sister in law and I just happened to stumble upon this place on our way back to our hotel. It was hands down the BEST restaurant we experienced in Florence. The service was outstanding, the food was excellent and the atmosphere as very family oriented. Zio Gigi is definitely on our list of places to return when we go... More

This place has some of the best food in Firenze. Our AirBNB host recommended it when we asked where the locals eat and we were not disappointed. The food was great the staff was genuine and I would go back to Italy just to eat here again.

We were disappointed by this casual place. A friend who lives in Florence had recommended it, and, sadly, it did not live up to our expectations. We arrived at a popular dining time, and were seated not in the bustling 'front room', but in a more cafeteria-like back room with florescent lights, TV blaring, and views of the kitchen. We... We went here for dinner and thankfully it was near our Airbnb. It's open on Sunday's. We had the steak Florentine (€25 - 500g) which is reasonably priced for this area. Also had the fettuccini with prawns( FYI the waiter informed me that the prawns are not fresh but we're previously frozen) he pasta was fresh. Overall happy with the... More

This is a great place that was recommended by Italian friends back here in the U.K., the portions are very generous the starter was a meal in itself and the two pasta dishes did not disappoint, the wine of house was nice and great value. This was one of the best value meals we had in Florence and one of... More

We visited this restaurant on recommendation of our hotel - it was a WINNER! This place has exceptional food, great prices, and to top it all off the owner is a charming, friendly, inviting man that exudes "Italy" at it's finest! We had the best night ever in Italy at this place. The owner mingles with all the guests and... More

My wife and I discovered this gem near the Duomo in Florence. From the time you enter you are made welcome by Zigi. He personally serves you as well as being the chef. The food is outstanding and reasonable. The Bistecca Fiorentina is spectacular and very authentic. After dinner you may get a few Italian songs out of Zigi

I've been coming to Zio Gigi's for about 8 years. Its a quaint osteria a few blocks from the Duomo. A little to tricky to find as it is off the beaten path but once you arrive you feel like you are at the home of a good friend. Honestly, everything on the menu is good. One time I ordered... More

We really enjoyed the dinner here, having some starters and then steak Fiorentina. House wine was smooth and matched the meal very well. This was a rare place you cna get Fiorentiona ony around 500-600g, unlke other places that strat with around 1000g. Reasonable prices, less then 50 EUR for the dinner for 2.

Stayed airbnbjust round the corner from this great Osteria. Our hosts recommeneed it so we booked for our last night in Florence. Again, its just behind the Duomo tucked away in a quiet street, look out for the green neon sign on the corner. Had 2 very good veal dishes and some very passable house white wine.

Staying in Duomo

Neighbourhood Profile
Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city. The historic center is characterized by the immensity of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city as it was in ancient times, with maids walking in the main square and horses carrying coaches. Nowadays, roads are busy with street artists. Rustic Tuscan bakeries give way to fashion shops; just stop for a few minutes in the middle of Piazza della Repubblica to enjoy the colors and sweet melody of the carousel that will bring back great memories from anyone’s childhood.
