Surly, unfriendly service from a waiter. The food was Totally bland, tasteless and swimming in grease. To top it all totally over priced. Would not recommend.

A gem of a find, good wholesome Italian food at its best. We shared a platter to begin , of which my favourite was the wild boar on toast, not something I would of picked but really glad we tried it ,it was amazing . The home cooked pastas are something else , the simplicity and good flavours were the... More

May be not famous like the other in via de neri but may satisfy your appetite with different types of schiacciata .few chairs so ideal for a spuntino while walking .

This was our last evening after traveling for 3 weeks in Tuscany and we wanted something special. We were delighted, not only by our waiter but also the food. The food and wine was excellent. Definitely recommended!!!

Like many others on this page, my girlfriend and I came to Florence to enjoy Tuscany's cultural and gastronomical heritage. Whereas the former is rather easy to come by, the latter proved rather tricky as we tried to avoid cheap tourist traps and not to strain our budget. Until then we had made only the greatest of experiences with restaurant... More

We found this restaurant on a list of the "best" affordable restaurants in Florence, published in The Guardian. Well. Wrong. The pasta was below average, and the mixed salad we ordered, although made of fresh ingredients, was just sad pieces of veg with no dressing or effort of any kind put in. As a vegetarian who generally likes eating pieces... More

I ordered bistecca florentina and it was delicious and juicy. The place is a bit more expensive than other places that serve steaks but the quality is really outstanding. I highly recommend visiting the place after a tiring day of shopping.

A typical tuscan wine house with a good meal deal for a dinner... We had 3 small dishes and 1/2 a bottle of wine each for like €13. Not all of us enjoyed the food but my dishes were certainly some of the best food I've had in Italy. Not huge of portion sizes but tasty... You could imagine paying... More

We came here for lunch at the suggestion of our Airbnb host. We were looking for sandwiches but this place was more typical tuscan cuisine. The food was good certainly locals frequent it. Inside was nothing fancy, locally rustic is a good description. Price wise not much cheaper than other nearby alternatives.

The only reason I came here was because my father didn't want to walk too far in the heat to the trattoria I was going to take him to. We ordered a meal and the pasta dishes were fairly solid, nothing to write home about. We had some house wine... now this is where it gets very dodgy. We presumed... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
