I had a gelato here and it was one of the best I have found in Florence - avoiding the ones in tourist centre.

By far, this gelateria, which serves artisanal gelato, is the best we have had in our trip. It has a great value for money, delivering big, delicious scoops for a decent price. It has an interesting array of flavors, fruit-gelato desserts, and other gelato-based desserts. We truly enjoyed its chocolate-based flavors. The staff that served us were all friendly, accommodating,... More

After diligent research and consulting a local expert, I offer my view that this is the best gelato in town, despite strong competition (such as Cantina de Gelato). The quality is outstanding, there's a wide range of flavours including some tasty inventive ones like chestnut. The service is charming. The location is a bit of a trek, on the east... More

After all day walking around beautiful Florence I stopped at Gelateria de' Medici for the best gelato I've ever had! There is no more Gorgonzola flavour (their famous so far) so I chose Mascarpone/ Ricotta e pere! Out of this world...!

Everything's pretty easy to walk to in Florence, so make it your business to stop by this gelateria for one of the best gelatis you will have ever experienced, and their gelato-filled fruit are a wonder to behold!

My husband and I are pretty picky about our gelato since we've been in Florence for 2+ years now. We're fortunate to live near Badiani (a dream of a gelateria) but when we're downtown, Gelateria de Medici is one of our favorite stops! The people who work there are delightful and willing to put up to 4 flavors in their... More

The best gelato we've had in Italy so far! It's so good. Especially their house flavour. Its a small place in a quiet neighborhood away from the crowds and city center, but it is worth it.

This is my favorite gelateria in Firenze. They have excellent flavors and everything is fresh. It's also a local favorite as well. The best is the ricotta and pear (best gelato I've ever had) followed closely by the orange and chocolate.

This gelataria was recommended to us as the best Gelataria in Florence. It is located in a side street off the beaten track, but when you taste the gelato it is well worth finding. There is so much choice of cold gelato and sorbet, then there are cakes and pastries. We walked there twice in 2 days just to savour... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
