We were in San Gimignano off-season in early March so I was worried about being to find a restaurant open on a weeknight after 8:30pm after a fun but long day-trip to Florence. But there was no need to worry! The staff at the Hotel Leon Bianco recommended this restaurant. It's a very nice family run restaurant, apparently started by... More

Just being in San Gimignano is wonderful, but having faultlessly good pappardelle with wild boar ragu and a carafe of local wine makes the experience even more blissful. This was such a glorious way to spend an afternoon that I want to go back as soon as I can.

Almost all the good restaurants in the city were closed in winter. This still was a very good choice. We had the pasta and it was delicious.

We were in Tuscany for a week and we really wanted to try a good Bistecca alla Florentine. We were not disappointed. The meat was so tender and delicious. We ordered just like the locals eat it, and it looked so red inside that I hesitated for a little... But after the first bite I just understood the perfection of... More

Lovely little traditional restaurant serving great well cooked food. We had fantastic starters - Gorgonzola and caramelised pear tart; and gnocchi with Gorgonzola- followed by some succulent Venison and wild boar in red wine. They offered recommendations on local chianti that was good also. Overall about 90 euros with dessert. It was quiet due to time of year so didn't... More

Disappointing. Food is ok, but for the price and small quantity portions definitely not worth it. Having been to other restaurants in the city I would never recommend this as a choice. I had the gnocchi with pecorino cheese and truffles..felt like they were saving on every ingredients, the lamb shops where minimal.. Seriously.

la mangiatoia has created an experience of exquisite Tuscan cuisine in an old world setting. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavors like ravioli stuffed with potato and truffles and topped with Parmesan fonduta, thick spaghetti carbonara with truffles, wild boar braised in red wine. Save room for dessert! Magnifico!

Our first experience (and review) was for pasta dishes. But we came back several nights for dinner, and found much to commend this restaurant. It is run by two sisters who are charming, and very accommodating. My wife has some eating intolerances and the restaurant was very co-operative in catering for those; in particular she loved the lamb chops. I... More

We had our last dinner in Italy and it was Devine. Most amazing meal ever. The atmosphere and the food was excellent. We were so glad we found this restaurant. Service was great and we would highly recommend this for a special meal.

Had lunch and we were the only non Italians in the dining room which was packed, the local residents obviously know a good place to eat. Allow plenty of time, the service is relaxed, but very friendly, the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The food is superb and while meat eaters have a wide choice of local produce, vegetarians are very... More

The Renaissance banquets at the Medici court with game and vegetables of the lands of Tuscany come back to life in The Manger restaurant menu in the center of San Gimignano. In Via Mainardi in the stables of an ancient building, Susi and Paul Nannelli have recreated the atmosphere of other times, offering a cuisine that is inspired precisely by the ancient recipes reworked in a modern way: fillet of venison with vin santo and mushrooms, Wild Boar Remigio de 'Nannini and wild boar in sweet and sour sauce are just some of the unusual dishes to try for sure. The restaurant is run by Mrs. Susi who chooses only local products for the preparation of the dishes presented to guests with care even in appearance. Do not miss the Tuscan specialties such as Ribollita or pappardelle with wild boar, much loved by foreign tourists who visit the locale.Il restaurant is located in the historical center a few steps from Piazza Sant'Agostino in a living room with stone walls and brick arches ancients. The atmosphere is rustic and elegant and is eaten with a background in classical music. In summer there stands outdoors to enjoy in addition to the kitchen even the atmosphere of the medieval village. The management is friendly: the spouses Nannelli together with their daughters Annalisa and Giulia will welcome you with kindness and cordiality.
