As a cheese lover the smell of cheese just hit me in the right place :) if you do not like cheese this place and his smell are not for you! We shared a fondue and all you can eat raclette with the other couple and it was delicious! Great service, very kind. If in basel and grave cheese a... More

Terrible food and terrible service. Served greasy, soggy, bad quality food. The food was so greasy and unappetizing that I had to send it back untouched and order an alternative. Funny enough, the bill came with one charge BUT it was for the more expensive inedible version that was sent back untouched to the kitchen. When asked why they chose... More

It is one of the most traditional restaurants in Basel, typical for its raclette (I always ate it) which is expensive but tasteful. Wine offer is very little. Service is fine. They speak several languages.

The smell of cheese smacks you in the face as soon as you enter this restaurant! We were seated upstairs having made a reservation several days prior to our visit. We shared fondue which comes with cubed dry bread and cost about 30francs each which left us feeling a bit cheated as we didn't feel like we'd had a 'proper'... More

On our overnight stay in Basle we decided to visit a 'typical' Swiss restaurant with good meat and sausage dishes, Rösti (the Swiss version of Hash brown, but yummier), fondue etc., what I would not usually cook at home... The Walliser Kanne was brought to our attention by one of our friends who lives in the Basel. It was good,... More

Traditional Swiss food - fondue, raclette, meat with roesti, steaks, sausages, schnitzel, salads. Most menus come in two sizes (different amount of meat). Service is quick and professional. Tables are a little small and four people will struggle around most of them. Some menus are a little 'gimmicky' - double the size of a Wienerschnitzel done in butter at the... More

Had the restaurant recommended by a local - walked in and smelled cheese fondue - smelled very good! I ordered the veal ala Zurich - it was excellent! Came with a side a fresh vegetables and potatoes. The service was attentive and although the restaurant is probably a bit touristy - for the price it was a winner!

I am not a cheese fan and the last time I had fondue in Switzerland was over 20 years ago. I decided to try this dish again even though I come to Basel every year for the past few years. Asking my local colleagues, they were unanimous in suggesting this restaurant. So this is an institution for fondue. I visited... More

We were there today and had a classic fondue and a mini banana split (which turned out to be anything except mini LOL). The waiter was a real gentleman and very kind. We were very satisfied with the ambiente too (a beautiful old swiss house). The fondue was very tasty, but damn was it expensive guys... Even for Swiss standards,... More

Fine dining in traditional Swiss ambience. Recommend this for traditional Swiss cuisine. Enjoyed the fish and prawns here.
