Beautiful historic ambiance. Simple but good dishes for lunch. An excellent view on the market square and Rathaus.

We stopped here for tea and dessert while visiting the Christmas market. Had the Raspberry Torte with our tea and it was very nice. What is also nice about these places is you could sit there for as long as you like enjoying your drink. They also serve lunch, but we were there mid morning, too early for lunch. Atmosphere... It is always a treat to go and have a coffee and a cake in this place. Above all, the ice-cream is fantastic. Highly recommend it!

This place was recommended to me and my girlfriend, as one of the best and oldest in town. Indeed we visited and we found out ourselves that is a great place. We went there for brunch and as soon as you get in the variety of sweets and pastries catch your eye. On the top floor is the tea room... More

They say, go to Schiesser if you want to enjoy yourself, and they really mean that. Exquisite confectionary on the ground floor, and the 18th century Tea Room and the "Rothstübli" above, overlooking the picturesque market square and the town hall. Decorated in a classic Viennese coffee house style and invites you for a coffee or tea, glass of wine... More

The place is fantastic: old fashioned but elegant, great location beautiful decor. Nevertheless is always crowded. They have great strawberry macarrons and chocolate cake.

Kids and me arrived in Basel and wanted a nice drink - kids were drawn to chocolates in the window and soon I realised they had seating upstairs - what a great place - bit pricey after France but worth every Swiss Franc!

Stopped for an afternoon drink and a dessert. We sat outside across the street from City Hall and in front of a tram stop. The people watching was outstanding. The drinks and pastry were excellent. From the café we walked down Streitgasse and found an excellent shopping street. There was a wide range of price and quality. My wife found... More

I was looking for a place with nice chocolates and was referred to here by Valentin from the Tourist office. The Café Confiserie Tea Room is located at Marktplatz and offer prime sidewalk seating with views of the square and Rathaus. On nice days, the sidewalk tables are prime real estate and hard to come by. On my visit, I... More
