Great mexican food with a special thouch. This is not your ordinary taco shop. I recommend going for the full menu.
Great mexican food with a special thouch. This is not your ordinary taco shop. I recommend going for the full menu.
It is the most sophisticated Mexican restaurant that I am aware of (I know a few in both, Zürich and some other European cities). We went through a series of courses (5) plus a dessert, a fixed menu. All went very well. The food was...really carefully prepared, with professionalism and (I would say) passion. The taste of each serving was superb, but also the aesthetics of each dish. The local is at a new place for this restaurant, since a few weeks ago, and so it requires some more running to improve and mature, but I think it is only a matter of time. The cocktails are unique, creative, tasty, phantastic... Really. Apart from some time to refine their decoration and products, I would only think that they should only make a bit of an effort to drop their prices a substantial percentage... I found it somewhat expensive, even for Zürich...More
Wonderful place for authentic and unique Mexican food! The owner, Miguel Ángel, is the nicest!!! He is brilliant to chat to and the restaurant is his pride and joy. He always makes me feel like he would give the shirt off his back for anyone…...very genuine person.More
I ordered via mosi.ch - after 40 minutes my order was cancelled (instead of delivered) - very disappointing
Positives: good cocktails, portions are decent sized Not so positives: rather slow service (which was for us ok since we had a lot to talk about), food is quite decent but not special
We went to this restaurant for the first time. It is a little expensive, but hey, we are in Zurich! The staff is very friendly and professional. The food is simply delicious. The terrace is very nice and well-kept. Loved it! We will definitely go...there again.More
We were excited to visit here to celebrate our 14 year old's birthday. He had selected it as he wanted to try very good Mexican food - alas, it was disappointing at best. On a pleasant Saturday night, they did not have enough staff. The...primary (only) waiter was apologetic - which softened our disappointment. Still, for what the dinner cost us - it should have been a MUCH better experience. We waited for a LONG time for everything: -To take our drinks order -To bring us drinks -To bring us our First course (we got it over an hour after we arrived...) -To bring us our Second course.... The evening just went on and on.... and that was not ideal with kids, especially a hungry and understandably impatient 11 year old.... You just can not expect kids to wait that long for food.... but they did not seem to be aware of - until the very end of the evening - the impact of their slow service on all of us... Given the cost, the super slow service and the fairly pedestrian food - especially given the cost - I doubt we will visit again. I do HOPE they are able to address their service issues - as the waiter was very nice - just overwhelmed and unable to address the issues during the dinner....More
The place is as amazing as their staff. Authentic Mexican exquisite dishes..not the typical Mex dishes but more creative and delicious recipes. The ambience is a combination of unique cuisine, good taste, nice Mexican elegant decoration and the cuisine is renarkable. The Chile Relleno, carnitas...de Pato (Duck) were delicious. The owner looks after every important detail, greets you with a mexican smile and his staff is friendly and their Chefs are actually professional Mexican Chefs.. Definetely we'll be back.More

We loved our experience at El Alebriije. Super easy and convenient to get to. The tram stop is directly out front of the restaurant for one direction and 50 yds for the other. The outdoor patio is huge and looks like a wonderful place to...enjoy the summer/warm spring and fall mornings and nights. Equally as nice is the vibe inside. Tables are comfortable and intimate for family dinners and large parties. We brought our 2 yo and it was a great restaurant for our family. The food is authentic. We got to speak to the owner, Miguel, a sociable, genuine, and down to earth individual. His vision is playing out in real time. He employs trained and certified chefs directly from Mexico to cook for El Alebrije. He works with local farms to grow the type of corn/tomatoes he uses in his dishes, salsas, and tortillas. He caters to vegan and vegetarians with all his dishes. He finds niche tequila suppliers (shout out to Tequila Inicio). He is creating his restaurant to be sustainable and local. We went for brunch, but will be happy to head back to try the dinner menu. The Chilaquiles were fantastic and the Molletes reminded my husband of home. We look forward to going back for dinner when we get a chance.More

We came for a brunch, first of all we could not sit on the terrace and it was really warm inside while it was only 21°c outside. Then the brunch menu did not had a lot of choice. We were both disappointed by the food...which was quite expensive for what it is.More
Dear Mathilde, Thank you for your visit to El Alebrije. We are sorry that our Brunch did not meet your expectations. Our chef has created a very select, but also very special brunch menu. You can find in our brunch menu chilaquiles, enchiladas suizas, molletes,...More
Very disappointed :-( Had heard good things about the restaurant and chose it for my birthday celebration. I love Mexican food The Guacamole was good, with good chips. The taco was good if a bit small. The main course was a huge let down. My...first mouthful was pure fat !! When I shined my torch on the plate (was dark) I could see a large part of the beef was fat and I cut it away which was a huge (a good handful) pile. I lost my appetite and couldn’t eat much. I was surprised the waitress didn’t ask about an almost full plate being returned and didn’t want to spoil things for my friends who had recommended the restaurant. But it turns out no one was impressed and none of us will be going back.More

+ excellent food (tacos without soggy tortillas! cream-filled churros!) + excellent cocktails (spicy margaritas fantastic) + excellent service from friendly team and founder + nice decor/place + yummy amuse bouche two minor problems are very typical of Zürich: - we were keen to sit outside...on a summer evening, which in Zürich often means traffic noise (including from trams and sometimes attention-desperate Ferrari and motorbike drivers; hopefully police can crack down on that). - not cheap (69 for two courses, one of which (very good) tacos; CHF 20 for an excellent margarita) - but again, the place was full so why shouldn't they charge for excellence?) - somewhat odd menu/pricing/ordering system: you had to order and pay by course but it wasn't really clear what was what...More

As a Mexican, I was not expecting this restaurant to be as authentic as it was. The food was amazing! I had the tacos al pastor and the sopa azteca. With both servings, I felt at home. As if that was not enough, Miguel Ángel's...service was stellar. I highly recommend this place! -Abel SánchezMore
Dear Abel. Thank you soooo much for your recommendation. We are really sooo happy, that you liked our "real mexican dishes" :-). - Monika
Brunch at El Alebrije is definitely a worthwhile experience. The terrace is simply beautiful. The "huevos rancheros" we're so good!!!
