I've eaten at Zeppo's several times and the food never fails. Last night's dinner was nothing short of fantastic. Honestly, I can't say enough about the food and quality of service. Bob and Claire are truly wonderful hosts and keep the place running smoothly and efficiently. Food quality seemingly gets better with each visit and is prepared and delivered exactly... More

Hided restaurant, 'cause you have to get through a narrow passageway; it's not announced on streets; great opportunity to dine at beautiful place; food not bad at all;

I've been to Kapitein Zeppos a few times in the last twenty years, and quite honestly, it's my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam. The food is gorgeous, we had mussels and beef carpaccio, and the service is very friendly and efficient. It's a lovely old restaurant and they made a real treat for my other half's birthday. Can't fault it in... More

Charming place, it's worth to find it. Very nice atmosphere, decorated with a mixed Mediterranean style, good food and service. Strongly recommend! I got to know it from worth of mouth and it was a very good suggestion!

Cute restaurant/bistro close to the touristy parts but still hidden enough not to be overly crowded or exploited. Really nice with all the plants inside, felt almost like sitting outside. Food was pretty OK, nothing superspecial, but nice and simple. Friendly service as well. A good place quite simply!

Location/environment: A small oasis hidden on a small street away from the hectic traffic and tourists. Walking in here felt like coming to a nice, cozy place somewhere in the mediterrenean. Service: The service was polite and attentive and after our lunch when we were about to leave i came to speak with the chef Kristjan (if i remember your... More

Authentic and quaint, this out of the way restaurant serves good value food. The limited menu is rustic rather than fine dining. We were surprised when we discovered what the menu translated as scallops came as mussels with shell on prawns, but the staff were genuinely apologetic. The herrings were good and the staff helpful.

As soon as I dropped my bags where I was staying, I hit the streets of Amsterdam and walked. And walked. And walked. When I finally looked at Google Maps, it was no help telling me where I was. I'm not sure if it was the buildings or it hadn't acclimated. In fact it insisted I was in Santa Clara... More

This is a lovely cafe and place to eat. We stopped for a break from exploring the city after we had just stumbled upon the place. The staff were lovely and we had a great coffee break before setting off again on our explorations. The location was great and the decoration inside was very nice. Well worth a visit if... More

Nestled in a tiny lane is Kappitien Zeppo's, located in a former tobacco curing factory---revealing Amsterdam's influence in the burgeoning market (this city was largely responsible for introducing Western Europe to this leaf!) The space is a maze of little dining nooks, each with a view of history. We chose to sit near the enormous carved bar...in what was the... More

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
