This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. It lived up to our expectations. We went for a meal on the two nights we were in Amsterdam. On both occasions we had to wait at the bar for a table but engaged in great conversations with...More

I went to Van Kerkwijk as a walk in on my first night in Amsterdam. It was a Saturday night and was very busy. I did not mind waiting and was rewarded with a delicious fennel soup, steak with cheese and strawberry sauce along with...More

van Kerkwijk restaurant was a wonderful find. Just off Dam Square, in Nes, this restaurant has a unique style and atmosphere. The restaurant does not accept reservations and, because it only seats about thirty, you have to arrive early to be sure of getting a...More

We were seated promptly after a drink at the bar. Waitresses were very friendly with a personal touch as menu is read to you. Beef was delicious as was pork pate. More dessert options would have been even better. A great stop in Amsterdam.

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some

This is a very badly run restaurant. The staff are rude. We got kicked out. Literally. We come from London where this would never happen

Van Kerkwijk, situated at the Nes 41 just behind Dam square, is a classic Amsterdam cafe and restaurant where you can eat and drink from early in the morning till late in the evening. Van Kerkwijk sisters have chosen a personal approach. That's why a menu doesn't exist and your options are presented at the table by your waiter.

Van Kerkwijk stands for quality food and drinks in an urban atmosphere. Characteristic, easy going, value for money. You feel at home between the regular customers who keep returning for the varied menu and the relax atmosphere.

Van Kerkwijk doesn't take reservations, walk in for a table or wait at the bar with a good beer or wine.
