a litte modern to look at and certainly not the place you would expect to find seafood but this is a GREAT restaurant. They have been operating for over 60yrs and offer some of the most delicious, fresh seafood. We live on the Silver Coast and so after being inland for a week or so were craving seafood. the staff... Elvas has an incredible array of seafood restaurants (marisqueiras) that is unusual since it is 150km from the coast. El Cristo is the leading restaurant in Elvas and specialises in seafood (shellfish and fish). Whether grilled Robalo, Dourada or Sardines - prawns, crab, lobster or clams a the food is really tasty. The wine selection is regional and complemented with... More

This time Elvas was a pass through place. The plan being to know and take some photos of the church, it's museum and the park. Then we needed to have lunch. In front of us this restaurant. I am trying to loose some weight, very slowly I confess. Again I failed. Two persons, two cold soups (gazpacho), prepared the Spanish... More

This is the restaurant where my family used to go for special occasions only or for some kind of celebration. It is a unique place in Alto Alentejo (northern part of Alentejo) since the place is not next to the ocean, however the seafood is simply excellent and always fresh. You cannot easily go wrong here. Absolutely deserves a visit... More

Although once you get there, you will notice a huge queue, it will be worth your time! You will notice that it moves along rather quickly, so it not a huge pain.Once you get there you will be offered the menu, but I suggest you go for the Buey de Mar that either way everyone is getting. It is really... More

We ate shellfish ("sapateira"). It was good but nothing exceptional. We found it very big with no option to choose a smaller one because there were no. That turned the lunch too expensive and we hardly could eat all of it. Desert (molotof) was so and so.

Recently in Western Spain (we were staying in Badajoz), we drove 10 km into Portugal to Elvas. The village may not be impressive, but El Cristo definitely was. Sick and tired of the limited choice of defrosted, poorly prepared fish available in the country I live in, El Cristo was, most appropriately, a blessing. Mind you, like most places in... More

El Cristo is a spanish name, meaning "The Christ", in honour of the well known church near the restaurante and of their main clientelle: Spanish citizens, mainly of the border city of Badajoz. The restaurante is clean, modern, but simple, and noisy. It only make sense to go there for seafood, always fresh and nicely prepared, The service is attentive... More

We heard about this "out-of-the-way" restaurant from friends, arrived with high expectations and were agreeably surprised by the great food and attentive service! We shared a platter of Peel-your-own shrimp, a "Bacalao" dish and Large steamed and chilled Crab called "Zapateira" which was sweet and delicious! Accompanied with Portuguese Rose wine (Mateus and Lancer) , with very attentive service from... More
