We read the reviews and knew this was where we'd have dinner our first night. It was a cold and windy day in Evora but we got there at 6:30 for the 7pm opening. We were fortunate to see only one couple in line and quickly formed a friendship as we waited. The added bonus was that they that lived... More

So it's the number 1 restaurant in Evora on Tripadvisor but wasn't sure how much that meant. It was absolutely amazing!! Only 10 people at a time, so get there for the opening. The food and the experience were first rate. Husband and wife team who run it like a dream. Four of us each had different things and all... More

First day in Portugal, Kathy and I were walking around Evora looking for a glass and a bite in a old school tavern and boy we lucked out. We sat at the bar, ordered cod soup and pork special of the day. Superb and cheap. Great real atmosphere and food. Went back the following day for another go and were... More

I'd heard just a bit about this place prior to visiting Evora, and luckily we stumbled upon it at noon on a Friday. An older man leaned out a window across the narrow street and informed us it would open at 1230. Thankfully, we stayed close and snagged 4 of the 9 or 10 seats; all filled in a matter... More

This tiny restaurant is what a restaurant should be. Excellent food, delightful and attentive host, leisurely pace, interesting and complete wine list, and reasonable prices. We started with warm cheese sweetened with quince on the side, scooped up with delicious bread. For the main I had the cod and my friend had the pork, both generous portions that could have... More

Only seats 10 at a counter. Run entirely by owner and a lady that I assume is his spouse who is the chef. Extensive selection of wine. Small but outstanding menu. We had local delicacy black pig ham to start, steak with mushroom sauce and lamb chops with potato chips and an excellent salad accompanied by a medium priced Alentejo.... More

Everything fresh and home made. Portuguese kitchen at its very best! And over a hundred Portuguese wines. Just love it.

What can happen on a counter that seats only about a dozen of people? A lot. Specially if you are eager to try the traditional recipes from Alentejo executed with maestria. Who else could dare to avoid opening his own restaurant on weekends and holidays if not the best?

I don't know about the other restaurants in Evora but the Boutequim da Mouraria gets our vote for number one. Rather than repeat what all the others beforehand wrote, I would pretty much affirm the same. My wife Michele and I arrived first in line 30 min before it's opening at 19:00. We struck up a talk with the French... More

Botequim da Mouraria is a very unique restaurant. It is small, there are only 9 seats at the counter. You are served by the very nice owner Domingos and the meals are prepared by his wife. The food is very good and also the appetizers.
