We were looking for a place with Fado music and Clube de Fado was recommended to us. First we ordered some sausage starters and they were lovely but the main meals were tragedy and totally overpriced. The octopus was chewy and undercooked, my rice was overcooked in a funny tomato sauce and my friend left her entire meal. It is... More

An excellent experience. The food was good and the entertainment terrific. You should have reservations, but we showed up at 7:30 p.m. and begged for a table and we got one. The place opens at 8:00 p.m.

My Lady and me were spending our last evening in Lisboa and we wanted to listen to fado music. We decided to go to Club de Fado and we we're fascinated. We entered when the set was being played and we were really politely and invitingly asked to sit to the bar. We just had dinner so we ordered drinks... More

We came for drinks and FADO and it was an unforgettable experience. We visited a few more Fado places and Clube de Fado was our favorite, we came back to make our last night Lisbon very special.

The music was nice and the wine, we liked the little sausages as starter, but from here it was a rapid downhill. My husband ordered codfish what he usually likes a lot, but this one was impossible to chew on, it was just getting dryer and chewier. My duck was not even close to be tasty, also very hard, and... We wanted to have dinner and hear fado, so we looked for a fado dinner place. This was a mistake. If you want to hear fado, go to a concert and skip this touristy gimmick of combination restaurants. The waitstaff was politely unpleasant and managed to sell us things that we didn't want by talking quickly, as in "and you... More

We were there on a Saturday evening. The place was packed, but expecting it to be we made a reservation a couple of days before, so we had a table - unfortunately, on the back of the room. We arrived around 8.30 pm, and spent the entire evening there. The staff is very professional and kind, but the service a... More

The extremely brief musical interludes are good, but the rest is pure extortion. Expensive cover charge, restaurant prices double the price of neighbouring options, sleazy decor... Avoid.

First, the six songs that night were hauntingly beautiful. The fact we were there for two and a half hours and only heard six songs is sad. The food is terrible and way overpriced as are the drinks. The starter that was "provided" for the table was €8 a head and consisted essentially of olives and stale bread and you... More

We came for Fado and drinks and we were not disappointed. The music was beautiful and the drinks were reasonable.

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
