We stayed at the hotel opposite the cafe and had breakfast at Nova P. every morning. Great fruit salad and yoghurt, fruit juice, pastries and coffee. Cost much less than the hotel breakfast and service was excellent.

Visited here after seeing it recommended in lonely planet. We were seated immediately and after ordering, our lunch was with us in well under a minute. However we did not then feel rushed to eat. Tasty food and welcome shelter from the heat of the midday sun.

Came across this bistro through Lonely Planet - and so glad we did!! My dad got the pork sandwich and we got the fresh cheese sandwich, all of them were very tasty and did arrive within 60 seconds as promised by the guide. The place is small and simple but does the trick - plus their juices are yum! We... More

We went here on a Lonely Planet recommendation. The piglet sandwiches were very tasty, around 3 euros each and fresh juices. The food arrived within a minute and it was a pleasant lunchtime stop

We stopped in here for a quick lunch while walking around Lisbon. No frills sandwiches all using the highest quality ingredients. I had the piglet on a bun, and it was exactly that. Great flavor and perfect for an afternoon refueling. Recommended for a quick bite and a beer.

A restaurant in the city centre. We jumped in here in a late morning rain storm and liked it so much stayed on for lunch. Drinks are cheap and a broad range of price for the meals. We had a warm welcome and good service. It always amazes me that these small ‘cafes’ always have free Wi-Fi. What a difference... More

Good coffee, freshly squeezed fruit juice, fresh pastry, great service, sensible price. Don't expect to be treated any different to a local.

This is an authentic Lisbon experience - a local sandwich shop serving a simple sandwich menu along with some fresh juices. The only nod towards pre-packaged was the accompanying crisps and the beer and coke. Having read the lonely planet, I guess, like others I was expecting something a little more gourmet with at least a garnish or some relish... More

Visited based on the rave Lonely Planet review and hugely disappointed. The service was hurried and unfriendly and whilst the bread rolls are nice, the pork was fatty and bland. My daughter had the fresh cheese roll and regretted not following suit.

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
