A romantic atmosphere inside or out with delicious food right off the #28 line. The service was fantastic, enough time between courses to enjoy the meal and the atmosphere. The beat butter spear was delicious and unique.

We were recommended to order the two types of Bacalhau that were on the menu so we ordered one each, they were delicious. And to compliment the dishes, a nice red wine from the Douro district. I thoroughly recommend the carrot cake for dessert. An intimate and cosy restaurant with friendly and cheerful staff.

You sit down for the atmosphere, viewing the trams, listening to the children playing on the courtyard and drinking a glass of wine. You stay for food because of the attentive staff and the reasonable prices, and are neither amazed nor unhappy. It's a pleasant experience in a lovely setting.

Great little place near the castle, the server was absolutely amazing, the food was amazing and if you want the true European experience just sit at an outdoor table and take in the ambiance.

The meals at Canto da Vila are one of the best we had ever eaten in our life. Add on top a very good service and a nice area, it makes it more easier to give a deserved 10/10. Thank you

We were coming down the hill from the Castello, and fortuitously came across this gem of a restaurant. Simple, authentic & delicious. The wine was also superb, staff were great, what more can you ask for? Our vegetarian friend was also happy - lunch menu, carrot soup or gazpacho , tagliatelle with eggplant and passion fruit mousse with a wine... More

Lovely little "bistro" restaurant. Booking is advisable as this is very popular. Staff are very friendly and speak very good English and really enjoy a bit of banter. Great food as well and very reasonable price.

My girlfriend and I went here for some food on a rainy October evening. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The food was good but not excellent - I found the prawn starter too salty and the mains were a bit dry. Canto is a small restaurant and was almost full by 7 so make sure you book (yes... More

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
