What can I say, this place has that something. It's very basic yet very cozy. The service is amazing. I had a bacalhau com broa (cod on corn bread), which was absolutelu delicious. Prices are ok. Will definitely come again!

The ambience of this small friendly restaurant is lovely. The staff, especially the young lady who served us, were so helpful and friendly. We both had fish dishes which were delicious with generous portions of either salads or vegetables, There were some interesting beers on offer but we plumped for a very acceptable house red at only 6 Euro for... First contact - you first have to find it. I really had the impression to go into some private place, not a restaurant... they first give me a Portuguese menu - good sign ! And that is the first time I am being offered the cheapest menu as a piece of advice - 9 euros while the most expensive dishes... More

This little cozy place was just what we were looking for on a Friday date night. Great food, nice staff and delicious sangria! We loved the little things from the house! Would certainly come again!

The waiter was very nice, the food was very good and the menu was very cheap. It's a very good restaurant to start the evening before going out (and they are open until 2am!) I really recommend this place !

Found this restaurant by accident. What a wonderful surprise! Had a nice cheese and meat platter, a great bottle of wine, the black pig kabob, and the black pig tenderloin (my favorite). Prices were very reasonable that the hostess was charming and welcoming. A really nice find.

I had the black pork tenderloin which was tender and succulent. My wife had the kebab which was very flavoursome. Both served with chips (very tasty) and salad. Owner was very friendly and spoke good English, which was helpful. Free WiFi too. Great local pub food overall.

I found Velha Gaiteira on a Sunday with a dear friend, when we were looking for a nice place to eat some tapas and have a glass of wine. We were delighted with the food quality and the cosiness of the food and space. Got back for a birthday lunch on a Sunday and, again, was delighted with the quality... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
