I spent one week here in Funchal and Porto Santo during which I had lunch and dinner in a lot of restaurants, but I can say for sure that I loved this one and the "filetes de peixe espada com banana frita" was the best dish I ate all week.

Just a lovely little unpretentious place that deserves all the accolades! Good value, friendly staff, good wholesome food, and nice outside seating on the main 'passageway' between the old market, and the busy restaurants of the old town. Give it a go!!

Came here for lunch on a recommendation from our taxi driver (Marco) and we were not disappointed. Local dishes beautifully cooked, huge portions so recommend order the half ration, you can always have more. Local fish was delicious as were the prawns in garlic and parsley. Staff were friendly and great place to watch the world go by.

We stopped at this outdoor cafe in the sun to enjoy some lunch. The menu choices were many. We ate the scabbard fish fillet. It included fried banana, potato, rice and salad. It was very tasty and the serving size was generous. Local musicians entertained us with guitar and accordion music. We felt the price was reasonable.

Do not walk past this great little venue. Food is fantastic and service with a huge smile. The Prego, that's a steak sandwich, but oh so much more to the rest of us, is a meal to die for - enjoy!!

Don't let the term "snack bar" fool you. This is a full-fledged restaurant with fresh seafood, vegetables, local fare, and cold beers. Located just steps from the fish market, Escadinha is easy to get to, yet not on the exact same street where dozens of touristy places are. I had the tuna steaks. They (3 decent-sized portions) came with a... More

My mother and I were on a girlie holiday (my mum is 75) and we both love, home-cooked honest food at sensible prices. That is exactly what you get with a smile and quick, friendly service. I live in rural Andalucia, Spain and this restaurant reminds me of being at home! My mum owns a timeshare in Funchal and we... More

For a great lunchtime experience, eat here, the food is not fancy but great ingredients cooked really well at affordable prices, this is no fine dining it's better! There are too many places in funchal presenting very mediocre food, in a very pretentious way and trying to charges inflated prices, this place is not one of these, it is a... More
