Visited many times over last 4 years, generally very good. Alas, tonight not so. Decided we would have our Xmas meal on the Eve, at the pub. Booked well in advance for the festive menu. Got there to be told that one of the 2...main courses wasn’t available, there was no stuffing with the turkey and no mulled wine. What we did have was nice. The next party in was told the whole festive menu wasn’t available. My wife has encountered similar issues on her previous 2 visits this month. We get the answer’supply chain issues’, maybe ok for specialist foods, but stuffing??
The ambiance also wasn’t what it used to be. There are clearly issuesMore
Ordered from the festive Menu. £30 a head!!! Disappointed with what was served up. Extremely small portions not what you would expect. Not a parsnip or carrot in sight. 4 Brussells sprouts, gravy tasteless. One member of our party had no roast potatoes but some...(4) peas and one green bean. What is that about? Small lump of chestnut stuffing.
Dessert was was tasteless - mulled blackberry sauce... a dribble of red liquid on a very empty plate. The lemon verbena leaves had the most flavour on the plate.
Staff especially one lady in a pink shirt was rude and abrupt which wasn't appreciated. Young people/ staff congregating around the kitchen and till chatting away. Had to ask repeatedly for water for the table.
Only positive was we had a cracked glass which they replaced with a fresh pint free of charge!.
Won't be going back any time soon.
If they serve the same menu tomorrow for Christmas Day the punters will be very disappointed especially at £80 a head.More
I have known this pub/ restaurant for over 40 years. Rang for reservation and told a large party had booked so expected a bit of a wait. When we arrived, shown into the back bar which was trying to be heated by one oil filled...radiator, not the log burner, asked to be moved we were put into the bar which was even colder, no fire on at all there, this was on one of the coldest dankest days in December, very cold and the reception and welcome was very poor, the waitress did do everything to try and help. I had been told this place was cold and unwelcoming a few months ago but didn’t believe it, I now I know it is true. Waited nearly an hour for meal which was on hot plates but the food was only warm, and sparce. Expensive but not worth it. We will not go back!!!!More
Lovely pub, but…. Went with son and daughter in law, and daughter in laws parents, they are sort of local , I was up from the new forest.
Drinks came fast , starter came fast, but that’s where it stoped!!
We waited a good 30 mins...for main course,we were going to have desert but my son had the get back to work, there wasn’t enough time .
Such a shame .More
Firstly 45 minute wait for sunday lunch apparently relief chef on who was not used to the menu. Many people were complaining . Fish was frozen tasteless and soggy and only 10 chips best bit was tartare sauce. Roast pork was cold veg and gravy...luke warm. Yorkshire pudding nice. Staff friendly.More
We visited the Crown and Cushion after a long walk around Welburn and we were ready for a hearty Sunday lunch. However, what we received left us hungry. One Yorkshire pudding, 3 small roast potatoes, a portion of kale to share and a portion of...cauliflower cheese to share with what can only be described as a trickle of gravy. The food itself was nice, however on the menu it states that the meals come with carrot and swede mash that never made an appearance. Nobody came to check everything was okay so unfortunately we had no chance to make the staff aware of the missing items. Additional gravy and attentive staff wouldn’t go a miss - £17.50 for beef and kale just isn’t the one.More
Awful from start to finish. Cold and unwelcoming, half the food menu missing, many wines missing, dirty wine glasses, poor quality food. Staff including the female manager rude and unprofessional. Two other sets of diners had to go looking for people to pay the bill...whilst all the staff including manageress sat in the bar chatting, eating and on their phones. Honestly pubs like this don’t deserve to survive if they value customers as little as this place does. We got bored with waiting for staff and left our money on the table before leaving.More
Very poor service, I have used this pub for many years but recently have been made to feel extremely unwelcome. I meet friends who live locally, for a drink and we have repeatedly been told the tables in the bar area are reserved. We are...told that the only available table is in a room as far away from the main part of the pub as possible. I would have less of a problem with this if the reservation story was true as the whole of the bar and restaurant is empty when we arrive and when we leave. The food and drink is expensive especially in view of the poor service and unwelcoming atmospere.More
I have been in the this pub many times over the years, and since provenance inns took over always had a good meal, but something felt different this time, the staff were pleasant and friendly but it felt like the heart had gone out of...the place. The hake main I had was dry and tasteless and didn’t come with the dauphinois potatoes it said on the menu, it looked thrown together, and at £20 I expected something a bit special. Just really disappointed sadly.More
