We were made so comfortable and welcome by Eva our instructor and her assistant Nick. She worked with us through seven dishes. Greek salad, dolmades, spanakopita, roast lamb and potatoes, zucchini balls, and a yogurt dessert. She made it so interesting with some Greek history of the food. Everything was so fresh and all made from scratch even the phyllo... More

Right at the entrance to Adrianou street, you can't miss it. We stopped for a cup of hot chocolate and a toasted cheese sandwich before taking the walk along the Agora to Syntagma square. Both were fine. If you are looking for anything else other than a quick midday refuel, this isn't the place, in my opinion. Too touristy.

Stopped here for lunch thinking it was one of the busier places on the strip - usually a good sign. I was wrong. In an area that caters to tourists, it's difficult to really tell the difference between one place or another, but I was left very disappointed. Took a long time to order, by which time a very large... More

Very nice greek restaurant, used by locals dishes described in English and good English spoken by friendly staff. In a moderately quiet location and just 50 or so paces from Thissio station. Pleasant inside and outside seating. Clean toilets.

If you're after a taste of local cuisine, probably best to avoid Diavlos. Situated at the top of the street, it's hard not to be drawn in by the staff, seemingly authentic seating area and atmosphere. On closer inspection, it became apparent that the restaurant itself was aimed primarily at tourists looking for a quick stop. Give them their due,... More

My wife and I have just visited this place on our honeymoon. I have wanted to start writing reviews on TripAdvisor for some time now. This restaurant has inspired me to do so. We had a starter, two main courses (lamb shank and pork shank both from the specials menu),a glass of red wine with complimentary water and bread. This... More

We came into this restaurant when it was empty. Good location for people watching. We found the waiter to be abrupt and dismissive, he spoke to us like we were staff. We decided to leave as it spoilt our experience. However, there is good live music and you will be lucky to be served by someone who wants to provide... More

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
