I visit this tavern every evening when I am in Athens. They serve simple tasty Greek food at very good price. They have fresh fish as well. House wine is also good, and there is live music on Saturdays. Love it.

There is an abundance of delicious, fresh food here. We had all veggie (no cheese) options and they were delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout the meal, but not standing over you the whole time (which I hate!). A definite thumbs up.

and delicious food. The buffet looked great so we ordered from it. The lamb could have used a little more seasoning but the cuddle fish was very flavorful and tender. We ordered eggplant with cheese and giant beans which were both fantastic, better than the entrees! We flushed this down with a rather small carafe of wine and the bill... More

I odered there Greek salad and fried liver. The liver was horrible, it was 50% fat, very soft and not eatable. The salad was ok.

My wife and I enjoyed a late lunch here on the final day of our two-week holiday in Greece. Although we visited many wonderful restaurants during our vacation, this place was simply outstanding. These guys aced it all from start to finish—location and inviting ambience; attentive, personable, very capable service—oh and ahh…the food. Simply brilliant. This restaurant offers their guests... Not far from Monastiraki metro station, this wonderful taverna is all you need in Athens to feel at home and to eat "traditional". The youth of Athens seem to hang out on this street too! I ordered some vegetarian mezes and a small bottle of ouzo, spent around three hours slowly enjoying the great food and the wonderful Greek music... More

Psirri is within easy walking distance of Plaka and Monastiraki. The streets are lined with cafes, bars and restaurants. Taverna Tou Psirri is in a great location, away from the traffic. Food is not only very good but also reasonably priced, and service is impeccable.

Authentic Greek with daily changing local dishes. Loved the no-nonsense and great food. Recommend the Feta from the oven.

Description
The Taverna of Psirri, is a traditional greek restaurant, held by a family originated from Paros Island. Established in 1994, by the father of the family, and today run by the two brothers Alexandros and Giorgos, the restaurant remains a classical choice for anyone who would love to taste the original Greek Cuisine. In our restaurant you can taste a variety of greek recipies, good wine, raki, and tsipouro. What makes us differ from the other traditional restaurants? Well, that would be our love for our buissines, our need to maintain the originality of our restaurant, and to contribute to the conservation of the greek tradition, and the greek traditional cuisine. On Saturdays, after 21:30 you can enjoy our live band playing rempetika and folk greek music, while eating. If you want to experience a traditional greek meal in a beautifully decorated restaurant, and of course, traditional greek music playing, this is the place for you! Come and join us!

Staying in Psirri / Gazi

Neighbourhood Profile
Psirri / Gazi
Side-by-side neighbourhoods Psirri and Gazi provide some of the city’s prime nightlife. The almost claustrophobic streets of Psirri feature an interesting blend of original small businesses with the restaurants, cafés and bars that have recently sprouted up. The central artery of Agion Anargiron Street has lively places to eat or drink. Further west, you can visit the peaceful ancient cemetery of Keramikos, then cross busy Pireos Street to find yourself in Gazi. With the huge Technopolis performance and art complex converted from old gasworks at its heart, you really have to come at night to appreciate this maze of bars at its best, although a daytime stroll will allow you to admire the excellent street art.
