Locals presence is important for us, there were lots of locals. Service was good. Traditional Greek cuisine, very delicious, with uozo and wine, we payed 25 EUR per person, it was surprisingly low. I suprised by the bad reviews, it's our 4th time in Athens and we can definitely recommend the place.

Diogenes makes for a very pleasant stop while strolling la Plaka. Some visitors say it's not gastronomy; they are right, but it is a damned pleasant place overlooking a square with a small garden and no car passing by, no horn blowing. Only birds in the trees chatting endlessly. The staff arranged a long table for our party, quickly adjusted... More

Attracted by the reasonable prices and and the stunning location, a square under trees, our first dinner was so good we returned the following night and wasn't disappointed at all. Tradional Greek favourites such as lamb stew, chicken souvlaki were all there and the longest delay was us choosing what to have!

Visited this restaurant for a dinner with some friends. Asked for a table outside under the olive trees overlooking some ruins - quite nice a location. Though we got seated right away, it took a while before we got to order. The two waiters that handled our side of the restaurant could have been nicer, yet wouldn't go as far... More

We were walking by on the first evening in Athens when we saw this place. Lots of people sitting outside, even though it was not too warm, but they have gas heaters to compensate. The setup is very nice and provides for a great atmosphere. The food was very good. I tried the moussaka, which I liked very much, even... More

Amazingly poor serivice and only average food comparing to the prices. Would not recommend. The waiters were angry at any of our request

Atmosphere overall was really nice, however when it comes to Greek food, this isn't anything closer to Greek food. We came today from Mythelene (Lesvos) after a week of having the best food ever, the best "Greek" food. We ask for two basic and not too difficult dishes and they were not even close to what it should have been:... More

Personally for me locals presence is always a good sign when i choose place to eat. Its what i saw in Diogenes. A lot locals with the children. Greek cuisine, very delicious, for such dishes i was expecting to pay more but bill surprised me.

Having had mediocre dinners in Plaka before, we were not expecting much, but we're tired walking and this is just up the street from our hotel. The olives were a little bitter, but we were pleasantly surprised by the veal steak and lamb souvlaki. Both were grilled simply but were juicy and very good. The meals came with with grilled... Authentic Greek dishes. Surprised at the negative reviews. We ate there several times for lunch and dinner and only had one grumpy waiter. The food was always fresh and tasty and ample quantities. Portions were generous enough for us to split a salad and main course. The location was perfect for us.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
