We visited the restaurant whilst in Athens. Great service and tasty food. We were looked after very well by the staff of the restaurant a family run business. Thanks

Was looking around for this cafe and found this while we are near Temple Of Olympian Zeus, and just try it. It was a quiet Saturday and not much patrons in it. We did try the grilled squid and also the pork gyros platter, we like it so much, it great and delicious..

We were there today for lunch. Food was ok and service not good at all. Definitely an overrated place. Much better options available towards monastariki square. Disappointed

I was pleasantly surprised on how tasty the food was! Large portions that even my finicky kids liked!! The hostess (owner I think) was friendly and made us feel right at home. You won't be disappointed!!!

We had our first meal here when just arrived in Athens (was nearly 10.30pm at night) and the Chicken Gyros (only 4 euros at the time of writing) we ordered was super good value and delicious, we had quite a few Gyros in the next 10 days after that and none of them was better. We had our lunch the... More

We stopped here after touring the acropolis complex. It's a few blocks from the main complex so it's less crowded by all the tourists from the buses. The Greek coffee I ordered was not good (nearly solid) but the gyros (pork and doner) were fantastic and everything was reasonably priced. The staff was quite nice. Would stop here again if... More

I love Smile. And I am talking about the one near Acropolis Museum. The one where you can draw in a stone for 1 EUR. The service was very friendly. I ordered grilled ocotopus with rice - lovely! My teenage son was very satisfied with his gyros. So yes, we would recommend this place to anyone going to Athens,

We were in Smile at Monastraki on a friday evening. Its a typical cafe with a very antiseptic feel. The service was warm, but did not get a lot of options for local Greek food. We also missed our Sweet red wine. The food was ok, nothing to rave about. There are better options towards Monastraki Metro

We stopped here while walking to the stadium and we're super glad we did! I had the doner pita and it was delicious. I was a little hesitant because I had seen a review saying that it came burnt and smaller than expected but when we arrived, the table next to us had ordered the same thing and it looked... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
