If you want to get a feel for Athens, this is a great spot to be. Find a seat outside on the patio, order a pastry and espresso, and take in the sights and the sounds of the city!

They must have figured quickly that we were Americans--they brought our glasses with ice! (very rare in Europe). The service was decent and the food was good. It was in the city center and busy.

Gyros are kind of ok; pizza and club sandwich terrible. Completely overpriced; dont order beer.... Service is nice anyway.

Me and my husband were walking in the monastiraki and searching for some good vegetarian food when a guy from this cafe asked us to try some food thr. On his suggestion we ordered a vegetarian pizza and must say it was really good. Also all the staff was happy and smiling. Really liked it.

We choose the location for the shade and for the chairs that are more confortable. The beer was cold the gyros was good but nothing special, the kataif was good. Prices ok

The server was pushy, the food was terrible (dry meat, stale pita, cheap pizza with frozen crust and way too much cheese), food took like 45 minutes to cook (we were nearly the only people there!), and the prices were high. Seriously this place is the worst.

This was a good location for people watching and to rest after a long day in the city. The hot chocolate ordered was luke warm and pricey. We were not offered change, as it was assumed to be a 25% tip. Service was frosty. The experience was warmed by an array of quality outdoor heaters.

Walking round Athens in the heat of the day demands that you stop off at one of the thousands of restaurants available and get fed and watered. Wow, we were so pleasantly surprised we returned the next day for dinner. The food was really lovely, good value too and the staff were friendly and eager to please. We highly recommend... More

After a long and hot day around Athens it was nice just to sit down and get a cop of coffee and a croissant. Nice to sit outdoor and watch people going by.

Staying in Monastiraki

Neighbourhood Profile
Monastiraki
Monastiraki is a souvenir-hunting enclave with a difference. Apart from the dramatic backdrop of the Acropolis, its network of alleys and pedestrianized streets surround the remains of both the Greek and Roman agoras, adding the quaint concept that this is where the ancients also came to shop. Named after the tiny monastery church at its center, Monastiraki Square is a lively spot by day or night, with street peddlers vying for your attention to sell you nuts and sweets. Down beside the metro station, the official Flea Market is an unbroken row of souvenir shops until you come to antique-oriented Platia Avissinias, while Pandrossou Street on the other side of the square offers more tourist shopping. The pedestrianized street beside the Greek Agora is lined with cafés offering fine views.
