We came here twice during our 4 night stay. It’s traditional a lovely setting great ambience and great food. We had the specials moussaka and lamb with roast potatoes. The portion of lamb was huge my wife could not finish it. The moussaka was cooked in a round earthenware pot to keep it piping hot. We also shared an Atitamos salad absolutely delicious well dressed and presented, I had a large beer and shared a half litre of wine litre of water and bread for 35 euro. Good value good food and good service not over attentive but just the right balance and as many have said we were given a small pudding which was free of charge. If you like traditional Greek tavernas then you’ll be more than happy.

Be prepared to queue to get into this place. The locals know good food and sensible prices and this place fills up very quickly. We had some wonderful food, courgettes fried in batter, wonderful octopus, meatballs and incredible pork chops. Deep dark house wine is wonderful and they give you free desert of balaclava and tots of Greek liqueur. all the staff really helpful and funny

Fantastic menu and lovely staff! Beautiful set in a romantic feeling restaurant with lovely outdoor seating. The filo wrapped cheese with honey, lamb chops and lamb kleftiko with grandmas potatoes were incredible and all at half the price we’d expected. Super value and highly recommended!

.........while looking for restaurants near our hotel. Very glad we gave it a try; it's small inside but has plenty of seating outside. It's in a quiet street. The staff are great; friendly, and hard working. It's a generally younger clientele, and so delightfully informal but not in that sort of artificially over-friendly American way some places try to adopt. Old farts like us sit waiting for a menu..... then you get pointed to a QR code on your place setting which takes you directly to the menu on your smartphone. In these days of COVID and all the fannying about which goes on about hygiene, the system works incredibly well. The food is excellent. Excellent! We were in Athens only five nights and ate here two of them. The Chicken Fry and Pork Fry are superb, and on the second visit I had a "Cretan Carbonara" which was so tasty I could have ordered it again just so I didn't have to stop eating it. I was surprised that instead of spaghetti or linguine and a gallon of cheesy white sauce, it was paccheri pasta which consists of tubes of pasta about 3cm across and 3 cm long; on cooking, they collapse into a pillow and hold sauce inside. The sauce was a smallish amount of smoked Cretan sausage, cream, onion, parmesan, just enough to cling to the paccheri. Completely awesome and an absolute bargain at around €8. Fantastic, highly recommended. Both red and white house wines bought as 500ml carafes are as good as the food.

In the short trip my sister and I had in Athens, we ate here twice, and it’s become our dearest place in Greece, for its enchanting vibe, really fresh and clean-taste dishes, and welcoming staff. Tucked away from the hustle of the city centre, the restaurant lights up the small streets of the chic neighborhood and invites to a heated terrace, against the bitter temperatures of January. I felt ready to try on any of the plates recommended, and none disappointed. Portions are adequate and mix in the Mediterranean flavours which melt away washed by the best wine I tasted- (seemingly) homemade, rich and full of savour. If you find yourself in Athens, I recommend straying from the crowds and exploring an authentic restaurant with an amazing vibe :) Many thanks for your hospitality!

The place is a touristic attraction, which has a negative effect on the service: the waiters (although polite) can't wait for you to leave space for the next customer. I left a big tip but later I realised they had charged twice for a particular plate. Although the food was tasty, it was not cheap at alla, and the overall experience does not justify another visit.

Disrespectful (as the name of the place translates to) this restaurant is NOT! It was in fact one of the MOST respectful we have visited in Athens… ever! Despite visiting the city frequently as I have family-roots and relatives here, I usually stay in the southern suburbs. For the first time ever, we decided to stay in the city-centre as our son, being 12, was eager to see some of the famous sites. We were not sure where to eat in the centre and wanted to avoid expensive tourist traps and my husband came across this delightful taverna. We visited the first night we arrived. We were not so hungry that evening as we had flown in and eaten later that afternoon and just had a small plate each. The food was delicious though and service welcoming and genuine. The menu looked truly appealing so we wanted to go back another evening when we weren’t occupied with family to try more of their dishes. We returned two nights later and were instantly recognised. We were given endless baskets of their delicious, fresh baked bread (note we are not made to pay for this as in other restaurants where they sneakily charge you) and you are also offered baklava and a shot of something delicious after the meal: again on the house! The portions are fresh and plentiful. Although some of the staff were different to the ones we had on the first evening we ate there, the service was impeccable. Kristos was there both nights and his service and care needs to be commended. It’s a restaurant we will recommend to family and friends in Athens. We will certainly make the effort to return on our next visit (even if we are staying in the southern suburbs again next time)! Thank you to all at Ατιταμος. Have a good winter and good health to you all.

Atitamos is a delicious and well-kept restaurant, where you can try delicious typically Greek food. Prices are moderate and the dishes are very satisfying. The staff is always very kind and welcoming. It is a must to spend an evening or lunch here when you are on vacation in Athens :-)

Unlike most reviewing that restaurant I did not enjoy the experience. The moussaka was mostly made of not so well cooked potatoes and a thick top layer of some cheese lacking flavor. The eggplant layer was practically nonexistent as was the meat. The service was nothing special though it was not a busy time as it was 3 PM on a Thursday. The baklava was tiny, free and super tasty but I will not return. There are better options near the Omonia square even at a better price :)

If we could, we would give Atitamos 6 stars. The staff are so lovely - warm, friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious; the portions are generous and you can take what you haven't eaten back home with you. There are Creten dishes on the menu - absolutely lovely. The baclava - yummy. Thank you for letting us try the local after dinner drinks. It was very kind of you. We wish you all the very best and hope to see you the next time we are in Athens. Efcharisto.

This small place is an absolute gem. It was the first place we visited in Athens and it remained one of the best places by the end of our trip. The service is great, prices are alright. The grilled sardines were good, the T-bone steak was the best I've ever had. Water was free of charge as it is in most places in Athens. We also got a complimentary dessert. Steak + grilled sardines + a beer and an orange juice for around 35 EUR.

Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
