We thought our local meal from the first night would be a difficult act to follow. We went for Mary Portes due to its review score and proximity to our hotel. We'd unwittingly walked by it earlier in the day and a guy on the...More

We asked one of the Boat Tour Operators for a recommendation of where to eat. She immediately mentioned Portes, it was a little walk from where we were but well worth it and we were not disappointed with the recommendation. The menu is interesting and...More

I make no bones about it, Portes has always been my favourite Chania restaurant. Imagine my unbridled horror therefore when Suzanne (owner) told me last year they were closing down. But never fear mon braves, they have re opened bigger, better and stronger opposite the...More

6 of us eat tonight in Portes. We had eaten in this restaurant in its old location in the old town last year. The new restaurant is in an amazing spot where you can see the sunset go down at 8.30ish. We got great photos....More

This restaurant has been relocated to an area just outside the old castle. Great location by the harbour and sunset. Food is reasonable priced and the quality is high. Friendly atmosphere, and the staff remember you from last year.. worth a visit

They have moved location and now have a bigger restaurant. The food remains excellent, the stuffed zucchini flowers are superb. One to definitely go to.

Located 10 minutes from the centre of town this restaurant is a gem. The food is a mixture of typical Greek fare augmented by some different and more modern cuisine. All cooked to a high standard. Fava with caramelised onions was excellent. Chicken meatballs in...More

On a day trip to chania we initially congratulated ourselves on being savvy and avoiding the tourist traps. The reviews for portes were great and we were excited to experience what they had to offer. It would appear that excitement was misplaced. The food was...More

Lovely late lunch at Portes . Highly recommend the stuffed zucchini flowers to start and the mussels cooked in an interesting white wine and cheese sauce. The house white was also remarkably good at 4.5 euros for half a litre.

Sunset views, lovely terrace..we had seafood, and a tuna steak, simply amazing. I would recommend the Saganaki shrimps, and the white wine in the picture....service fast and kind, everything really good.

This is a small family owned restaurant which has operated in the Old Harbour of Hania since 2004.We have recently moved to our new premises on the water front on Nea Hora Beach with ample seating along the beautiful harbour there. As you approach the restaurant you can't help but notice our charming decor featuring old doors as the name "PORTES" means doors. The Irish owner/chef offers her customers a blend of trend and tradition with her unique recipes catering for all tastes including local, greek, mediterranean, seafood, vegetarian and vegan options. All ingredients are fresh, seasonal, local and bought daily.Recipes are designed depending on the season and availability therefore be sure to checkout the blackboard displaying new dishes and daily specials. Here at"Portes" we open our doors each day to welcome our customers.
