On a cold and windy day, we stumbled into this haven of warmth and fine smells. What a great menu, with a great array of herring flavours. The food was absolutely full of flavour and the service lovely. It has a quaint and rustic atmosphere and is very Danish. It's nice to find such an authentic, rustic place in such... More

There was a small but very good menu with something for everyone. After a 'stater' of snaps (recommended :-)) my fellow diners enjoyed various Herring dishes, which they all enjoyed very much, while I enjoyed some very tasty Danish Meat Balls. We then had a cheese course. I had Strong Mature cheese served on a slice of rye bread with... More

A relaxed half basement location with some great 100-year-old photos of the locality on the wall. English spoken and the waiter was polite and helpful. My first taste of the lunchtime meal was Rød Aalborg snaps, which certainly served as a winter warmer. My tasty starter was herring with potato and mayonnaise and egg on rye bread. This was clean... We ( a group of 5) had lunch at Pilekaelderen during December 2016. We had pre-booked and were given a nice table in an alcove so talking was very easy. We received a warm welcome on arrival and were given plenty of time to make our menu choices. The range of open sandwiches is excellent the when they arrived, they... More

We chose this restaurant because of it's large selection of vegetarian and fish-focused Smørrebrød (we don't eat meat). We were visiting from the US and wanted to try what was considered a Danish staple We were blown away. I still dream of the fish Smørrebrød we ate, and loved every item we ordered. As we were visiting in autumn, it... More

If not recommended to us we would have walked past this place. Small basement restaurant full of locals eating authentic Danish food. Great food and friendly service. Just shows to avoid the the famous and we'll rated restaurants and ask where the locals go.

We stumbled across this basement restaurant when exploring one lunchtime. Very busy but we were made to feel welcome and the staff took time to talk us through the delicious menu. Lovely food and a bustling atmosphere, definitely recommended but as ever in Copenhagen, not cheap!! 😄

You do not need to visit more famous and expensive Schoeneman to have a beer and sandwiches. Great service and inexpensive. Safe choice for a Danish lunch. Will be back.

My friend and I visited to experience the open sandwiches that we had heard so much about .. and wow, it did. It disappoint. First off, don't think sandwich .. think amazing tasty dishes, incredibly tasty with layers of flavour .... served on a slice of the bread ... delicious! Grab a selection and dive in .. it won't disappoint!... More

We just bumped upon this tiny cosy smørrebrød house located in a basement while walking downtown. Although it's so close to a central area, with my surprise, it's not what you'd call a "tourist trap". Being a vegetarian I enjoyed seeing a few suitable options on the menu. The restaurant is very clean and the lady who welcomed us was... More
