While visiting Gamla Stan we decided to try this place for dinner. We were not sorry. The reindeer with root vegetables was the most tender and delicious I have had in a long time and I get reindeer a lot when I'm in a Scandinavian country. The waiters were pleasant and prompt with the service. I would definitely recommend this... More

Enjoyed some delicious traditional Swedish food at Stortorgskallaren. I had the meatballs which were so good! I also had the creme brulee for dessert which was perfect! The restaurant is located in Old Town and has an incredible view of Stortorget which is wonderful to view while enjoying a meal.

Stortorgskallaren is located in Old Town, they looked busy, and with locals. You can start to tell when a group has a leader and everybody else in the group is a tourist. I was here for a smorgasboard with traditional smoked salmon.

This is a traditional restaurant in the very popular tourist Square in the old town however, the food is good and so is the service. We had a very pleasant dinner and room to sit outside. It was a very relaxed and enjoyed very much. We would certainly recommend it for lunch and/or dinner.

We had spent the day sightseeing and wanted to sit and have a drink. It was 4.30pm, there were plenty of empty tables yet the waiter who allocated us to a table was very surly. When we ordered a bottle of wine, his attitude improved somewhat. However, when other friends arrived, the tone reverted back. I would not go here... More

This is a very pleasant restaurant in the very heart of Gamla Stan. In spite of its location which is on a tourist track, they serve a decent Swedish food ( try meatballs with lingonberry jam or salmon) . The service is friendly. It is a good place for both lunch and dinner. I would definitely recommend it.

Good ambience in the center of the Gamla Stan. Traditional swedish food. Tried the Pitypanna and themeat balls. They were just ok. 25-30 dollars eachs person aproximately. Really good ambience, with many tables downstairs. Would go back....

But it is not!! Because of the location this restaurant could serve bad food and have bad service. Many of their guests visits once, when on vacation. They do not have so many choices on the meny but the once they have are well done, nicely presented and very good. Prices are ok. And the staff is perfect. Talant, interested... More

This was my first visit to Stockholm and was taken here by a friend. There was a great ambience in the restaurant - a lively buzz but what you might expect for a Saturday night. What stood out for me was the amazing flavours in the food - just fantastic!! I note a few reviewers have complained about the service... More

The food was very nice, though small portioned. But what really annoyed me was the rude service. Not even a smile. Never again! Don't let your evening be ruined by them.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
