Good service, pleasant atmosphere, reasonably priced, straightforward food. Recommended - worth a second visit.

Had booked a table for one, and got a place in the corner of the main room by the window. Excellent for a single diner! Hard benches, simple tables, but that's what makes this place. During the evening, it is quite special to sit in...More

I was in Stockholm for a very short time, but I wanted to get a true experience of the culture, people, and food. I happened to stumble upon Den Glydene Freden and could not have been more happy with the experience! It is located in...More

What a wonderful experience. The building is wonderful with lots of different rooms on different levels giving a great feeling and atmosphere. The food is excellent and the service top rate.

We have been to this place earlier, and being a fan of Swedish ballad singers of yore, it's atreat to visit. You always have a feeling that Carl Michael Bellman, Evert Taube, Cornelis Vreesvijk or Fred Akerstrom may enter the door, sing a song and...More

This restaurant was founded in 1722, I believe. It has a very good comfort Swedish food. This isn't fine dining. It's just getting good quality Swedish food in a great setting. Definitely ask to be seated in the cave in the lower level. On a...More

Myself and two friends literally just went past this gem of a restaurant and went in on chance for a late lunch. We were lucky that they could seat us as the late afternoon reservations were begging to arrive and we were told we could...More

We dined here for dinner tonight (Monday) and atmosphere was unpleasant because it was so loud we couldn't hear each other. The tables were squeezed right next to each other and didn't help the bar was right next to us. The service we had was...More

We had dinner on our first night in Stockholm and it has remained our favourite meal of the trip. The restaurant has a very romantic, olden feel to it with attentive service. We had the Swedish meatballs which came with lingonberry sauce, creamy mashed potatoes...More

A lovely old restaurant with a lot of character. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive. Food was really good. I had spicy sausage with creamed garlic potatoes which were gorgeous, I could have eaten a pan full!

Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home
to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central
island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small
island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous
Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit
touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting:
take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and
through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest)

Description
At Den Gyldene Freden we have served authentic Nordic home cooking since the opening in 1722. Famous cultural personalities, tourists and local regulars visit our historic facilities in Gamla Stan to enjoy the fine food and the genuine atmosphere - for everyday or special occasions. We, the people who work at Den Gyldene Freden are very proud of our heritage and passionate about refining classic courses into modern cooking. Our philosophy is based on the idea that one must make time to cook - and eat - fine food. We make room for international influences, but our base is the Nordic kitchen interpreted in our own personal manner, with great respect for flora and fauna.
