All reviews beef wellington scottish scallops baked alaska foie gras veal milanese sea bass prawns warm bread lobster soup fries potatoes fine dining cooked to perfection last night talented chef white chocolate
On our way to dinner, crossing republic square, we spotted No 59 with its inviting elegantly lit small tables. We had a minute to look at the menu which sounded refined but understated, an so booked for the following day. We were warmly welcomed and...introduced to our waiter, I find the personal touch so important, and although we were offered a table inside they were more than happy to accommodate us outside. Immediately offered a drink with a basket of fresh baked, moorish bread, and talked through the specials. Hubby was immediately attracted to the beef wellington (trying to perfect his own) to have after a scallop starter. I opted for fish carpaccio with sea bass to follow. All dishes were amazingly faultless, as was the wine, I had 1/2 bottle Isis with hubby opting for red. The whole evening was relaxed, well paste with friendly efficient service which sold us on our meal for the last night of our holiday.
Now, this can be the kiss of death, but this could not be further from the truth. We were warmly welcomed back, again with warm bread which we munched over 1/2 bottle Louis Roederer while decided on supper and reminiscing over our holiday best bits. We both opted for Surf and Turf, which is worth a special mention as the steak was cooked to French rare perfection, topped with half lobster, Devine. I no hurry to leave we shared a chocolate fondant with a cheeky ice cream cornet on the side. It was a perfect end to our trip, even though we had to move inside as the rains came, which was know disappointment as the restaurant is elegantly decorated and very comfortable.
I honestly cannot fault the whole experience including cost which is extremely reasonable for the quality and quantity of all plates. Very much looking forward to a third visit in December, quarantine or not!More
This is my favourite restaurant in Malta! I’ve been to Malta many times and have tried many places but I just love 59 Republic. The food is fantastic and the service is second to none. Their new premises has given them the one thing that...was previously missing…a gorgeous terrace. The atmosphere, setting, food, cocktails, staff - everything is always perfect.
I have to add that Milos is the best waiter that I’ve ever had. My friends and I had the most incredible night thanks to him. He’s funny, charismatic, warm and absolutely brilliant at his job. He made our night and I can’t thank him enough.More
Wonderful evening - I couldn’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. Whether it was the salmon, the steak, the chips or the mango cheesecake, the food was fantastic (and very generous portions). On top of which all the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive!! Thanks for...a lovely evening - we’ll definitely be back next time we’re in VallettaMore
After reading the reviews we were so looking forward to our visit. Sadly it did not live up to expectations. We ordered a nice bottle of white and a little was poured to taste, it was warm and the excuse given was they had a...problem with their fridge. The waiter did try he brought some liquid ice, still didn’t really chill it, he then brought ice, by the time wine got to the right temperature the bottle was more than half gone. We went straight for mains, I had the fillet steak and my husband pushed the boat out and had the lobster Thermidor from their specials. My steak was lovely and done exactly as I asked. Unfortunately my husbands lobster was over cooked and rubbery and at 60 euro it wasn’t cheap. The waiter did ask if everything was fine, I said yes the steak was fine and my husband said his could have been better. All we got was a sorry from the waiter. The restaurant is in a lovely setting and the service is good, but I’d recommend you stay away from the fish and seafood as their chef obviously doesn’t know how it should be cooked. We were going to have the cheese/truffle platter for dessert but decided to give it a miss after the disappointing lobster.More
Everything was great really helpful stuff I did my reservation as I was walking by really easy ! The food was awesome I had the lobster and had so tasty so juicy and fresh and my girl had prawns they just melted in your mouth...! So excited about this place definitely would come back definitely would suggest it ! And by the way the stuff really friendly the Serbian guy whose name can’t remember was excellent give this man a raise he is the best waiter I met in Malta!More
We had a bit of a difficult time to get a. table at this restaurant and we can understand why, the location is beautiful. We had passed by, and they were fully booked, we then requested a table for another night and it was fully...booked and found a table on an alternative night. Everything was perfect, good service and great food. Slight wait from starters to mains of about 40 minutes but you soak up the atmosphere and just enjoy!More
My husband booked this before our trip to Valletta as it was a special occasion and we had read such good reviews onmTA. A few days before our booked dinner we called in to confirm. However they didn't have a booking but we were (un)lucky...to get a table.
It's a perfect setting for a romantic meal. However our night was a disaster. We ordered drinks first and my white wine was warm. We went straight for mains - my husband ordering steak and I ordered salmon and sides as we had seen a TA review where portions were small. This took an hour to come. My husband's steak was raw and inedible and my salmon was a bit undercooked. My husband asked if he could have salmon as he couldn't eat the steak. When this came it looked terrible and he couldn't eat it. We complained. The waitress, possibly the manager?, brought us a pudding on the house but we wouldn't accept it.
When the bill came they had removed my husband's meal from the bill and my warm wine. We just wanted a nice night to celebrate our anniversary and ended up very sad and disappointed.More
The best Restaurant we ate in in Valetta. The ambience, the table settings and the staff were all first class.
I had fish which was delicious.
The menu was good with enough on it to be interesting but not too much to be worrying!
Not cheap...but certainly worth it and will return when next in ValettaMore
