We ate here after reading TripAdvisor reviews and were not disappointed. Three men all had the pork knuckle which they raved about. Service was a bit slow but there didn't seem to be many staff on. This didn't spoil our visit though and would certainly recommend.

My husband and I used to live in Vienna and were going to take friends who happened to be there while we were visiting to one of our old standbys, the Schnitzelwirt or the Schweizerhaus. Instead, my husband did some research to find a restaurant we had never been to and found this place. We were happy he did. Well... More

We always try and eat here when in Vienna. Simple, unpretentious and reasonably priced food in an historic setting. Have never had a bad meal or service here. The staff are really friendly and speak excellent English.

We were on holiday from San Francisco and Vienna was the second city stop on our European trip. We discovered Melker Stiftskeller during a wonderful Vienna Food Tour with guide, Lukas, and had an amazing wine tasting here. Due to the restaurant's rich history, unique ambience, hospitable and friendly Manager and highly rated Austrian cuisines, we decided to return the... More

Due to the "cleverness"(?) of the city council they placed the huge medical conference ECCMID, the Vienna City Marathon and the Euro20 summit (Bratislava, but only 40km away) the same days - accordingly most of high recommended places have been booked out long before. Good to know that Vienna has to offer plenty of places for dining. The Melker is... More

Stumbled upon this place and was glad I did. The beer, food, and dessert were very good, prices were reasonable (especially for the location), and the ambiance and decor were great.

Everything was fine, everything was fine, this charming place must definitely visit. All absolute exclusive, starting with a wine cellar, with beer and fine schnapps. The dishes are very tasty, almost all of which can be ordered at the highest level.Thank you very much for the wonderful evening we will remember you.

You would expect from this place very special and tasty Gulasch, Wiener schnitzel and you get it but it is not very tasty and definitely not special (though for a reasonable price). You should not expect something special here - at least our experience was very mediocre. It is mostly a touristic place in an old (very old, like 15th... More

Tucked away in a courtyard and down a flight of stairs you enter a stunning old wine cellar, I was concerned that it would be rather dingy and cold but absolutely the opposite. The staff were so friendly and the service was quick! The food menu had a lovely seasonal section for those wanting this months fruit and veg but... More

Description
The Melker Stiftskeller is part of the Melkerhof in Vienna's Schottengasse 3 in the first district. A certificate from 1629 proves that there was a wine-cellar connected with the Melkerhof already at that time. In addition it confirms the right of the Abbey of Melk to store and sell wine from the abbey's wineyards.
The Melker Stiftskellers fine cuisine developed out of this wine-cellar.
Today we concentrate on traditional and fresh food, our speciality of the house, the roasted pork knuckle, is served for almost 400 years now.

The old cellar vault offers seating for 300 persons and therefor is perfect for larger groups, private partys and buisness events.

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
