I have eaten my way around Vienna's restaurants, from homely beisln to culinary temples, and before I travel I really do my homework. We LOVED this restaurant! Do not miss a chance to try a place frequented by locals who really know their stuff! The restaurant is located right next to an U-bahn stop right on the Donau. It has... More

Me and my girlfriend were looking for a place to have some local food. The waitress was grumpy and did not allow us to the premise of the restaurant we preferred even though there were enough unoccupied tables. Instead we were shown to the more unpleasant part of the bistro. Later as the stuff understood we were foreigners they simply... More

Had a business dinner here on a Tuesday evening and ate from the "Evening specials menu" great selection and excellent wine. Coffee from a famous provider from Trieste was among the best I have tasted. Visit if you can.

The location is great - close to the city center but off the beaten track. A couple of business buildings nearby. The facilities are typical viennese style in a building from the early 1900s, discreetly renovated. I was there yesterday for first time, for lunch, we were greeted in a very friendly manner. Food was excellent, staff friendly and quick... More

The restaurant is great and staff really friendly! We choose topical Vienna food and we loved it! Pretty cheap for an Austrian restaurant. Highly recommended!

Recently re-opened by new, enthusiastic owners, this "Wiener Beisl" (something you cannot translate into English, but can be described as traditional Vienna-style tavern) is one of the few that are left in town. Atmosphere and decoration are simple and exactly as you would expect from such a place - no fancy stuff. Service is friendly. The absolute highlight is the... More

I'm sure the food at Zum Friedensrichter is marvellous and that the atmosphere screams GENUINE VIENNA, but sadly we were not to experience any of that. A quick look at our two strollers made the waiter frown and shake his head fiercely, so we were forced to leave the premises without so much as having a look at the menu.

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city centre and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theatres, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
