Very disappointing, the classical menu does not offer much and the seasonal menu is not translated in English. Because I can read some German i noticed it and asked questions. The service is not friendly and everyone seems in a hurry to get clients in and out.

Zum Alten Fassl is a great favourite of ours. Vienna has much to offer, but over the 30 years I've been living here many of the old traditional "Gsthäuser" have sadly disappeared. This cosy traditional eatery has changed very little over the years, and it's almost worth a visit for the decor and atmosphere alone! The food is excellent, and... More

Great hospitality accompanied with great food and affordable prices. Treat yourselves to a plate of local culture at its best....the pork schnitzel was delicious and the house wine wasn't bad either. definitely worth a visit away from the mass tourism in the centre.

We visited last week. This is a good place to visit if you want to have traditional Austrian causine at affordable price. We had a venison carpaccio for starter. Then we ordered a wild boar ragu and a dear stewed with mushroom dumplings. It was all nice and very tasty. Potato croquettes were from the microwave. Would have replaced them... More

I stay in Vienna frequently and usually right by the Stadpark so I usually eat at the big name restaurants which everyone will know. Having been forced a little bit outside the main ring I have been delighted to find Zum Alten Fassl which I will now seek out every time I am in town. Perfect old Vienna interior and... More

Picked as a short walk from Holiday Inn. We had no reservation but staff welcomed us in, showed us to a great table in the garden courtyard where we enjoyed a selection of local starters, schnitzel and some good Austrian Beer. Well recommended.

It's located in the building where the famous Viennese artist Falco used to live. They have got a lovely garden in the backyard. It's nice very nice there in summer but they also create lovely atmosphere inside in winter. It's a very traditional Austrian restaurant, they have very good "Wiener Schnitzel" and they also offer lunch menus. Other than that... More

Good service. Perfect to taste a typical Weiner schnitzel. Very Nice garden. The wine selection is a little poor.

I have lost count of the number of times I have been here for the weekday lunch menu. It's great value and fantastic quality. You get a choice of starter and main. Drinks prices are good. This last time, service was a bit slow but still friendly and on the whole efficient. Nice shady courtyard where you can eat outside... More

Staying in Margareten

Neighbourhood Profile
Margareten
This former working class district blends hip eateries and avant-garde cinema with a time travel into 1950s Vienna. Feel the district’s pulse at Margaretenhof and Schlossquadrat. 19th-century Margaretenhof is a local icon, yet has very non-Viennese architecture with its brick structure and cast-iron verandas. The nearby urban Renaissance castle of Schlossquadrat houses several restaurants. In the summer you can sit in its romantic shady courtyard over Schnitzel and Kracherl (traditional fizzy syrup). Siebenbrunnenplatz and its surrounding shops and grocery stores have remained virtually unchanged in the past 60 years: taking a walk there is like stepping into a 1950s film set. Speaking of movies, head to avant-garde cinema Filmcasino in the evening. It often stages foreign language cult films.
