When it first opened, Die Wäscherei was an immensely popular place and always very full while run by the original management. Most recently, it has been a sad case of untapped potential with hit-and-miss quality of food and drink. Renovations have been done in an uninspired fashion with toilets that are reminiscent of motorway service stations in "decor" and the... More

We were a group there and good a table in former smoking room. During brunch all is non smoking but of course you can still smell it. The brunch is on the bar with the average breakfast stuff plus some chili , chicken nuggets and hash browns . These all are not self made but read made out of the... More

The brunch buffet is on par with the sort of cheap hotel breakfast you would only eat because it's free. But here you're paying 16 EUR, navigating an overcrowded dining area, waiting on a line, waiting for trays of food to be slooowly restocked. Across the board, low-quality foods on offer. Tasteless budget-brand mozzarella, poor-quality rolls, nasty frozen waffles, anemic... More

Popular for brunch because it's a nice spread, but lots of times staff can't keep up and certain dishes run out for too long (cutlery too). The brunch is set up on the bar and there's really not enough room to maneuver properly, but what would be the alternative? Maybe to put it in the main dining room but then... More

We went to eat at Waescherei after my husband had read some good reviews online and thought it sounded interesting. We booked a reservation and brought our two kids. In sum, we had a good experience and good food, but there is room for improvement. They had our table ready but moved us to a nicer one when we showed... More

It was very close to our hotel which made it perfect for popping into. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Service was very good as was the food . I especially recommend the Spare Ribs if you have a big appetite!

We made this place as the Web rated it as a good value Viennese restaurant. It was awful. Firstly largely smoking and accordingly for us , just disgusting. Secondly food poor value; bland ordinariness. Thirdly unwelcoming, sullen, cliquey unsoweiter I'd imagine there are around a 1000 better choices in a beautiful city.

We were a group of 8 plus one 3 month old baby. Reservation was done by phone and said that it is fine to bring a baby. we were sitting in a big room were you enter the venue. We had the all you can eat option on a sunday, which was poorly presented and the options were limited. It... More

very friendly and attentive staff. the food was "just" ok for me, did not wait to long, meat tasted fine but the gravy seemed to be some instant stuff. my friends where also not very impressed of the food. drinks where fine but the coffee (ok i`m coffee junkie) was more milk than coffee for my taste. prices are very... The Wäscherei definitively does not reach its old glory days of crowded nights with food and good drinks.Nevertheless the staff is friendly, portions big, and prices ok.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
