Lovely cafe tucked away in an alley off the busy pedestrian section of Vienna’s old quarters. We simply wanted a traditional Viennese meal and our tour guide walked us by this spot earlier in the day. We luckily stumbled back upon it by accident and...More

There are smart modern restaurants and cafes in Vienna, but this was rich in old Viennese charm, I echo "old style service" review plus the owner-Gunther Hawelka introduced himself and gave us the history beginning with his father Leopold. Cosy ambience in this Jewish quarter.

Afternoon melange and sacher torte in this dark and intimidate coffee house. Very busy, the waiters are a bit surly (in true Vienna coffee house style) but it was enjoyable.

Cafe Hawelka has been My regular coffee house in Vienna for many many years and never fails to impress me. With it's long history and the authentic atmosphere it is ny far the best coffee house in Vienna for a Melange or other refreshment.

Clearly not to everyone's taste but Hawelka is a great slice of history in central Vienna, it feels like the most authentic of the classic cafes somehow, less upscale than eg Landtmann, less polished than eg Museum and with few concessions to modernity. The coffee...More

Cafe Hawelka is a great place. It is as comfortable as the den of your house - locals sit for hours reading newspapers and solving the problems of the world and tourists like me go in to soak up drops of history and culture. We...More

VERY RUDE waiters. Waited 25 mins to be served and when we were going to pay, the guy asked me "would you like to leave a tip" and showed me the screen of the iPad he had with a white "TIP" label and I said...More
