The best places are the ones you find by chance. This cosy pub was really close to our hotel and we almost missed it. Great selection of beer, great service, everything clean, other tables were occupied by locals and tourists. Very positive atmosphere.

Visited the Mittersteig location and really enjoyed my flat bread with sour cream and onions. The bread was still warm (given that they bake it there and then in the bread oven) and the service was quick. Its a great place for a snack and the prices are very reasonable.

Part of this tiny franchise chain, the Salzgries Flanerei is half a mile from everywhere in the Innere Stadt but equally half a mile away from the tourist prices. This chain is where your beer is local and cheerful and your food is dozens of mix-n-match simple fillings (including multiple veggie options) inside a pocket bread, slathered in optional cheese... This establishment was formerly known as Kolar but the food and service at a reasonable price seems to remain very high. Had to do some searching but is a reasonably short walk from the U1 station at Taubstummeng.

Thank Edward K

Staying in Neubau

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s art district, Neubau buzzes with galleries, arts and crafts, trendy restaurants, avant-garde shops, and cafés. Neubau’s Spittelberg quarter with cobblestoned Spittelberggasse and Gutenberggasse make for a perfect stroll alongside Biedermeier houses and art shops. Don’t miss the historic courtyard at Amerlinghaus with its typical Pawlatschen galleries, a perfect hangout on a warm summer evening. Museumsquartier is Neubau’s undisputed highlight: the former Imperial stables house various top museums of 19th to 21st century art. If you love interiors, head for the Imperial Furniture museum (Hofmobiliendepot), one of the world’s largest furniture collections. Find your favorites among a dazzling array of Baroque, Biedermeier, Art Nouveau and Modernist chairs, sofas, cupboards, coat hangers, foot stools and wash basins. No weekend visit would be complete without stopping by a local café on a weekend morning for brunch.
