I was shocked to find myself and 3 friends banned from this establishment yesterday! Last year we had given honest truthful reports about the behaviour of the proprietor who had shouted at me in front of lots of people because I had sat down at...a vacant table. If I shouldn't have, the aggressive way I was shouted at was, to say the least, inappropriate. So we've ventured back this year. Yesterday four of us went there for drinks. Suddenly the proprietor came up to my friend and said to her sarcastically, thank you for your review, it was really appreciated My friend queried this and it was the whole issue of what had happened last year with me plus other issues of her behaviour last year towards my friend and her family, which led to the truthful reviews. As we left the proprietor came up and shouted at us that we were all banned! One of my other friends then asked why she was banned and was told she wasnt, only us besieged we were nasty! The odd thing about all this is, that it isn't the first time we've visited this kiosk this yesr. In our previous visits over the last few months and weeks we've been treated with courtesy and in a friendly manner. Bizarre!More
Despite and during the pandemic the owners and staff of this wonderful little Kiosk have worked tirelessly to deliver excellent homecooked food and look after their many regular customers as best they can. Due to the restrictions the seating capacity and layout changed, we have...witnessed many people become unpleasant because they can't sit where they want to despite being aware of the restrictions, some threaten to leave a bad review on Tripadvisor and have done so, which is sad and unjust. The hospitality industry has been decimated, personally we are extremely thankful that Yaz and Philomena, and their team have been able to keep the Kiosk open, long may it continue. Enjoying an excellent (and very reasonably priced) coffee, in the beautiful sunshine on the Kiosk patio is heaven.More
Last year during lockdown I left a negative ACCURATE account on Trip Advisor of a couple of incidents where the manager had spoken loudly and rudely to myself and a friend. The review also detailed incidences of tables being reserved for their friends only. Casual...visitors were not able to sit at a table even though these tables remained empty.
UPDATE TODAY.....I visited the kiosk again today with 3 friends and we ordered drinks . While sitting drinking these the manageress came over...and said directly to me "Thanks for your review," very sarcastically. Puzzled I walked to the counter to ask what her comment referred to. I was amazed when she replied that it was about my comment of 10 months ago and she knew it was me from the detail in my 1st review. She had taken offence and did not seem to understand that her rudeness was the issue then (as now !) We begged to differ on these issues and I sat down again.
As we left after our drinks she followed our group to the exit and informed us that we were now all banned !!!
My friends were upset and asked why. The manager, who had been sitting with his friends began shouting at us that we were so rude and not nice people. This was in front of a few other customers.
You honestly couldn't make it up !!!
So in conclusion......if you write a bad truthful review - you're banned. They are allowed to be rude to customers but referring to this in a review results in a ban. I wonder if they will now ban all the other reviewers that talked about their rudeness.
Nearly all the 1*reviews are concerned with their rudeness NOT the food, which is good. If I was in their position I would want to encourage 5* reviews by treating customers with kindness and consideration. People only complain for a reason....More
The most unwelcoming host I have ever met in my 61 years! We were told off. Instead of a polite, could we move one of our chairs, it was, YOU CAN’T SIT THERE, YOU HAVE TO ORDER FOOD etc...We had just finished a very long...hot walk and just wanted to have our drink whilst we thought about what we wanted to eat. The woman kept saying; YOU HAVE TO ORDER FOOD TO SIT HERE! Her attitude was rather aggressive. Couldn’t wait to leave the awful place. Just make sure you do the right thing, no notices about any of these rules. DRAGON HOST
This is the first time I've ever left a review on Tripadvisor, but due to the service I received as a paying customer at the Kiosk, I felt it was my duty to leave a review of the disgraceful and disgusting service I received. Like...thousands of other like minded walkers and cyclists, before starting to cycle the Southdowns Way, I decided to stop at The Kiosk at the beginning/end of the Southdowns Way, for cake and a cold drink. Whilst purchasing my cake and drink, I asked for some tap water to fill up my drink bottles. The response was "we don't give tap water" and they offered to sell me a bottle of mineral water. Upon finishing my cake, I challenged the lady and let them know that in 35 years of cycling, I have never been refused tap water, when purchasing food or drink. Another customer noticed they quite rightly provide a bowl of water for dogs but not a paying customer. If anyone is thinking of stopping here for food or drink, you should be aware, its not possible to getting tap water, unless you want to take it out of the dog bowl!More
Can't praise this place enough. Fabulous choice of very reasonably priced fresh food and drink. Brilliant friendly staff and a real feel good atmosphere, always. We're really missing this unique place while in lockdown.
Arrived all tables had reserved on them I queued up a young girl serving I asked can we sit down to be told only if you order food!!! Which we did and I have to say it was not very nice.
Such a shame as...in a great position but wish we had gone elsewhere.
Not friendly at all no smile I felt in the way.
I agree with the last reviewsMore
I so agree with the last 3 reviewers. We were shouted for wanting to sit at a table, told we could not book a table despite there being reserved labels on most of the vacant tables, made to feel not not unwelcome but unwanted as...we were nuisances, and publicly humiliated. There are a number of much pleasanter options around the area so will avoid this one.More
