Booked here after reading all the reviews. Sadly, we were disappointed. In need of a refurb, bit dark inside. No atmosphere. Good customer service. Food average. Husband had a steak, asked for rare, was done as medium. Chips of the ready frozen variety. It was...all pretty average. Try the Old Ship Aground instead.More

We were recommended to try the Wheelhouse Restaurant while on holiday in Minehead. Lovely warm welcome from the family who own it. A spacious, well laid out comfortable restaurant, with covid restrictions in place but without it being obvious. Terrific background music. The food was...fabulous. The filet steaks were cooked to perfection and the sticky toffee pudding to follow was just amazing. Our food was served in good time and we would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a first class place to visit. It was certainly the best meal we'd had the whole week we were there and just sorry we hadn't found out about it sooner. We will definitely pop in again the next time we are in the area.More

This place definitely deserves its top spot! The restaurant was fully booked on a Wednesday night, we just managed to book the last table the day before. We both had the soup of the day (tomato and sweet chilli) to start and it was lovely,...warm chilli heat but not spicy. I had the mushroom stroganoff and hubby had the lamb shank. Both meals were delicious and a good size. We finished with the lemon tart and the bread and butter pudding, both absolutely yummy and we were both stuffed! 4 beers and a coke and the bill was less than £60. The staff were attentive without being overbearing, but lovely to have a conversation with as well. Don’t be put off if you are sat by the bar, you will not feel overlooked. Even the music was perfect for the venue, and set at a good volume with the owner conscious of it getting too loud. We had a 3 course meal in under 90 minutes as the service was so good, but never felt rushed at any point. Lovely family run place and well worth a visit if you are in the area, just remember to book!!More

We went for Sunday Lunch today. We had booked at another venue in Minehead but found it very busy and unorganised. The Wheelhouse were able to fit us in. Very friendly but professional. Excellent Sunday roast. We both had beef which was very tasty and...very lean. Vegetables cooked beautifully. We have lived in area fortwo months and this was the best Sunday lunch we have experienced here.More

Lovely local restaurant with a friendly feel, great service and tasty food. The garlic mushroom starter was delish and the steak & kidney pie contained tender meat and a super gravy. Vegetarian cannelloni was tasty, and the portion sizes were spot on (and we like...our food). Bread & butter pud comes highly recommended - not too eggy! Wine was good with some unusual types available too (recommend the Shiraz/Cinsault from SA). Covid precautions were very much observed, but didn’t detract from the friendly atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit next time we’re here!More

We were recommended to this restaurant by our hosts at our Bed and Breakfast. The food was outstanding with friendly but professional service. Will definitely eat here again when in the area.

I've struggled to find good places to eat in Minehead - The Wheelhouse is often fully booked and there is a reason for that. The menu is full of classic staple dishes and not particularly adventurous, but the quality of food and their service is...very good. Definitely worth a visit if you are in town.More

Lovely food, good friendly staff, great value for money. Would highly recommend. My husband had the gammon and said it was the best he'd had outside of home. I had chicken in mushroom sauce with new potatoes and vegetables, couldn't fault it. Well worth a...visit but you have to book as they get very busy. Do not mix up with the Wheelhouse Cafe as two totally different places on the same street.More

With such good reviews we booked in with high hopes. As a veggie I ordered the sweet potato/chick pea/spinach curry - it was very thin and watery. I was advised at length this is because it's gluten free although not mentioned on the main menu...and I didn't look at the gluten free menu until after the meal as it was not relevant to me. I can't see why that would justify a watery sauce as red lentils or chick pea flour are gluten free thickeners that could be used.. a replacement was brought which was thickened for me - tasted very nice, came with nice rice, chutney, one chewy/cold poppadom (also replaced on request but still cold) and a garnish of salad which doesn't go well with a sauce dish. Hubby had steak, which was nice and cooked as requested, it came with peas, onion rings, 1/2 tomato, chips - however, some fresh/local veg could have raised it to another level . Our seats were like high back church pews and very uncomfortable by about halfway through the meal so we didn't stay for dessert. The bill was reduced by two pounds something, so rounded down, which was a nice gesture. My curry seemed small and I was hungry again later. Other customers were clearly repeat visitors getting a warm welcome which was nice. It was very clean in the restuarant and staff had masks. We thought our meal was ok, pricing about right but not memorable or delicious.More
