We have visited the Swan before and one of its key features is the food and the ambience of its restaurant. Tonight we visited and asked for a table and were shown to the Bistro where we had very good if not expensive meal for two on our own sitting at a scrubbed pine table riddled with wood worm. We... The food was lovely, both meals cooked to perfection. Great service as well as we were on a lunch break time limit and Craig made sure we were served promptly. I can also highly recommend the Sunday lunch menu.

Good food and good value - we particularly enjoyed the fish and chips and the wine list was varied with plenty of choice.

Most years, around seven of us go to the Hay Festival and a highlight when the sun shine is always lazy lunch in the Swan garden. This year we had dinner in the restaurant for the first time and it was excellent - one of our group thought too expensive but the rest of us thought the food and drink... More

Really good well prepared food served by young and enthusiastic staff. The Hereforshire steak was one of the best that I have had anywhere.

We pre-booked for Sunday lunch as we had heard they do a great roast beef dinner. We chose the bar rather than the restaurant to eat in, for a more relaxed lunch. When we asked what was roast of the day we were told roast pork, we asked did this include Yorkshire pudding we got a vague look from the... More

Booked here for a family Sunday lunch. On arrival we were told that there was no children's menu but we could have small portions for the full price!! We dined elsewhere. It's unbelievable that in a town which seeks to attract tourists there is positive discrimination against families. Thankfully there are more enlightened restaurants in Hay.

We made a last minute booking for a table for six at the Swan Hotel in Hay-on-Wye for 30th December and were very impressed with the service. With two vegans amongst our guests we were worried that they would not be able to cater for us at such short notice but the chef actually came to the phone and discussed... More
