As locals, we are very happy that the Charles Dickens is serving food again. And what great food - hearty, good quality Italian cooking. Melanzane Parmigiana and Pork Bellies were excellent, also the vegetables. An added bonus is that we could dine with our dog in attendance - she enjoyed the water bowl and snaffled plenty of treats from us!

We dropped in here for Sunday lunch to find that the food was franchised to a separate company. The food wasn't bad with an Italian themed menu along with the usual British pub grub suggestions. But it was cheap! The pub itself looked 19th C. in keeping with its name, exception being the ubiquitous sports TV and attendant noise. 2... More

Popped in here for a quick afternoon drink recently. Wanted to check it out as I will soon be moving to the area. Nice olde world feel to the place. Lots of separate areas and plenty seating. Pool table upstairs, bar billiards table on the ground level and what appeared to be a live music area down in the basement.... More

Just had one of the best Sunday Roast lunches here today. The beef was perfectly cooked, the Yorkshire was huge, proper roast potatoes and lovely selection of veg all topped with a most tasty gravy. The service was great, the staff friendly and the price was damn good too! There as a 10% discount as we had booked plus I... More

We visited the Charles dickens for a sunday roast and it was homemade loveliness at a very reasonable price! The Yorkshire pudding was huge, gravy was delicious and plenty of meat potatoes and veg...it was delicious. The staff were lovely, the garden is beautiful, if a little cold in February!, and we'll definitely be back soon for another. Perfect local... More

The ale is very good, the staff very friendly, the food well cooked. so what has gone wrong, it used to be very busy over the lunch time and it was very quiet even for January. The menu may be a fault, the choices are the same amount as years gone by but the type of choice has changed from... More

I'm sitting in the place writing this. Just popped in for lunch....what a disappointment . I should have kept on walking. The tables haven't even been cleaned from last night. Beer stains, sticky and covered in candle wax. The toilet is no better. This was a wonderful place on my last review. The food......well....I had the chilli burger I so... More

I last reviewed this lovely place in July and gave 5 stars. What on earth has happened in these few months? The tables were dirty and sticky from the previous night (we arrived at 12pm for lunch), the staff member didn't bat an eyelid as she put the plates on the dirty table! The toilets weren't much better. Now I... More

A group of us met for a meal here last Friday and we were not disappointed with the service or the food. Sinead looked after us and was very helpful and friendly. All 8 of us ordered different dishes and not one of us was disappointed. There may mot be a huge choice on the menu, but it is a... More
