Hidden behind an ugly white apartment building on the upper end of the main (and only) street in Sougia, this is a quiet, charming place with a big menu of authentic Cretan specialties. The stuffed vine leaves were particularly tasty.

Excellent choice of Greek specialities and the best, roughest red wine we had all holiday. But why does this one taverna say that the Sougia water is not safe and will not serve tap water but try to sell you bottled water. The other tavernas we ate at in Sougia never said this and happily served a carafe of tap... More

Polifimos is without doubt the best restaurant in Sougia. Their kontesouvli (marinated pork) is heaven (unless you are s veggie, and there is normally no more of it after 21.00), and the moussaka is the best I have had anywhere in Greece (trust me). The house red is goodish, and the waiter baws is friendliness incarnate. Go here.

We ate here on a Sunday and the restaurant was full. This may have been due to the Greek musicians who were playing. We have been here a number of times over the years and though finding it a bit chaotic at times have generally enjoyed our visits. My wife enjoyed her sea bass and i had delicious marinated pork.

Being rated as number 3 in the village we expected better service & meal than we got. Initially we were greeted with"smoking or non smoking table".Oh great we thought a chance to eat in Greece without someones smoke wafting over. So we said non smoking but were then told all the tables were smoking.Odd to offer something you dont have... More

The night we had dinner there was live music in the Taverna. Negative facts: a) The acoustic of live music was very bad. b) The taverna has no... More

Excellent taverna! I was there twice during my stay in Sougia and I recommend this tavern to anyone is visiting this town. The food is excellent and authentic, portions in greek standards ... abundant. I still remember the lamb cooked in wine leaves, so tasty. The service is always friendly and kindly available, they make you feel at home. Priced... More

We ate at Polifimos every night while we were in Sougia - best food in Sougia (particularly the fresh fish) and certainly a highlight of our entire trip. Excellent food, wonderful staff and just all round fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommend a visit (or two), you wont regret it.

We visited the restaurant one July afternoon after a swim in Sougia. Although it is not by the sea, it is in a quiet place and the food was very good. The portions were very big and everything we ordered was very tasty. We got squid and octopus, and a greek salad and we paid less than 30 euros. I... More

A very pretty Secret Garden style Taverna, tucked away behind a side street, Polifimos serves the best food I have tasted in Sougia. The marinated pork is fantastic. I will visit Sougia again just to eat at Polifimos! It really is that good! Add to this the charm of the surroundings and the warm and welcoming staff then I believe... More

Description
Hidden away from the main street in Sougia lies the Tavern Polifimos. Surrounded by a beautiful garden with flowers and an impressive tamarisk tree our guests can enjoy traditional Cretan and Greek cooking. Polifimos' kitchen is well-known for the grilled dishes on its menu - especially the Kontosouvli. The menu also offers a variety of starters - all homemade - and sea food. For the owner, Ioannis Marnelakis, the quality of the food is a matter close to his heart and he takes great care when selecting the ingredients for his restaurant. Once or twice a week Giannis organizes live concerts at the tavern. Cretan and Greek musicians play bouzouki, lyra, and lute.
