Came here recently as a birthday meal surprise, and the food was lovely. Beautifully presented and wonderful flavours. We had an option of a tasting menu or the main menu, and on the main menu it was only £35(ish) each for 3 courses (4 courses...More

This was my first visit to Chapter One to celebrate my birthday with my wife. Overall the dining experience was comparable to a high end London restaurant. The service was friendly and attentive, the decoration was tasteful and modern, and the food was expertly well...More

A disappointing meal as we had hoped the standard of service would have improved since our previous visit. Then, on arriving on a busy Saturday evening for the second sitting, we were asked to wait in the Pub opposite as the restaurant was running late!...More

Excellent food and wine. Superb service by the staff. Paula, who has been here for many years, provides a warm welcome. The restaurant and Andrew deserve their Mitchelin star. Long may it continue.

Chapter one seems to be going downhill. The food is still well executed but the menu is very boring and dated, the service is friendly but sloppy and slow, the toilets were filthy. Its easy to see why they lost the Michelin star and a...More

We went to Chapter One for a family birthday lunch. We've been before so we know the standard to expect. We were not disappointed and the food was it's usual high standard. When you sit down as a family group as we did it seems...More

I've visited Chapter One lots of times, generally for family occasions. Visited today for my Dads retirement celebration. It is honestly incredible; the food is consistently amazing and it has a great atmosphere. The thing that makes Chapter One so special is the service. The...More

First let me say that the food was stunning and beautifully presented. However, there were a few bizarre things that happened. My wife arrived with a coat and none of the umpteen waiters or receptionist asked to take her coat, which she then rolled into...More

Visited this lovely restaurant in early July. From the minute we walked in I loved it. The staff were so welcoming, the service was so good and discreet. And oh the food, each course was outstanding but my absolute favourite was the hot chocolate fondant...More

Why is the loyalty programme such a farce. Two times I have actually been there on my actual birthday, in addition to at least eight other times for various lunches and dinners this past twelve months alone, and in spite of the restaurant publicly stating their gifted treats for loyal regular members, especially on their birthdays, we have had just one glass of FLAT prosecco, hardly enticing to say the least. On the second visit for my birthday I pointed this out to the manager, Simon I think his name was, and he said he would ensure I got spoilt the next time. Hmmm obviously that didn't happen! I am really not desperate for freebies, but please don't promote an empty promise and don't take take your loyal customers for granted. Why does this happen in a four rosette establishment? I think that all these questions need to be answered please.

I cannot answer it as myself and my wife have said exactly the same thing. Also as 'regulars' I never receive any 'deals' yet my sister who only went once is often being enticed with special promotions via email. Also pretty... More

Behind the charming Tudor exterior is a bright, modern restaurant with top notch modern European cuisine. Chapter One has gained enthusiastic reviews from many major restaurant critics and happy plaudits from satisfied diners. Not to mention that it won AA restaurant of the year 2004 and comes along with four AA rosettes. The dining room is relaxed, spacious and comfortable, and the cooking superb. Start with something inventive, like homemade roast gnocchi with braised chestnut, pumpkin and lobster. Then do try the braised oxtail with pancetta bacon and parsnip puree - everyone raves about it. The wine list shows much care and attention too. You will leave feeling well-fed and well cared-for.
