Mostly indifferent service (Fabrizio was engaging at least) and in 3 months of travel across Italy (and also Budapest, Prague, Vienna and Lucerne) in 17 cities last night’s risotto was by far the most bland and inept. Same for salmon pasta. The pizza looked light...More

We went because it was recommended by our hotel. Probably a kickback situation. The place turned out to be a tourist trap. Food is mediocre and service indifferent.

Dining in the ancient grotto setting, combines nicely with this cosy place. Friendly service is given to those whose Italia language skills are sorely lacking. Excellent wines come with great recommendations that match the meals we selected. We visited twice during our stay, and would...More

Very disappointed after we tried this restaurant, specially because it was highly recommended. First of all the service is very bad, the waiter is bored, give a damn about what you want or ask. We overheard them to talk in Italian (bad for them we...More

I’ve been eating here for over 10 years now. The first proper Italian lunch after deplaning after 10+ flight from the West Coast. Always great good, wine and service, and authentic!

Four of us really enjoyed our meal here on our last night in Orvieto. Meat cooked over coals, in fact everything was cooked over coals. We all had meat, two had the mixed grill, one roast suckling pig and the other beef tenderloin. We shared...More

Good food and service! Adjustments for kids were no problem. The bresaola di chianina was our favourite.

We initially called in here for a pizza one Saturday lunchtime & it was so good we went back in the evening for dinner. As described by other reviewers the location is down some stairs & into the caves of Orvieto. We were recommended this...More

I would have liked to have given 5 stars but the only thing that was lacking was the personal and friendly feel. The food was excellent but a little expensive. The cave was a real gas and so cool of a setting. The service was...More

This is an intriguing restaurant set within tufa caves in gorgeous Orvieto. But the outstanding feature is the delicious Umbrian food, especially the unctious truffle umbricelli...wow. We were disappointed the restaurant was closed on Mondays as we wanted to return the next night. Next time!

Description
In the historic center and medieval heart of Orvieto, 10 meters from the elevator to the Campo della Fiera parking lot, there is a cave in the cliff that was carved out by hand. This atmospheric place witnessed the craft of rope making over many centuries. Today this cave is a distinctive and one of a kind restaurant where one can taste traditional flavours made new in unique and harmonious combinations, such as: Truffles, porcini mushrooms, wild game. Or, if you prefer, you can enjoy a variety of seafood, skillfully prepared, or take in the smokey aromas of our pizza baking in wood, brick ovens. We serve the highest quality products and excellent wines from our well, stocked "cantina". The rooms are made up of the original stone walls and vaulted ceilings of the cave and which fancifully meander onto different floors. It's winding, welcoming, rich in charm and history. In addition, we have a summer veranda which offers eating outside where you can enjoy the beauty of the landscape that surrounds the cliff.
