Made a reservation. Waited for minutes on the streets until they made the effort to talk to us. After sharing them our information regarding the reservation, there was some consultation amongst the employees. After a couple of minutes they decided to seat other guests on...top spots and they seated us on a table somewhere at the end of a dark alley in the middle of some bushes, in front of the airco/fan of the neighboring kitchen/restaurant. Asked about another table/shifting to another later on, the answer was simply: no. Smelled terribly over there, loud noise and hot air blowing all over your body and table. After trying to get the waitresses attention for a while, to order some drinks and to see the menu, we decided to just leave when she didn't respond. Can't comment on the food.More

Nice staff and excellent asian taste gyoza and tuna. We were surprised by the original taste of the food.

Very nice meals with an Asian twist we didn’t expect but lijed very much. The gyoza and the tuna are highly recommended as well as the calamaris.

A very disappointing meal for both of us. No set meal and the menu was written on boards that were re-written after we ordered with increased prices for the same dish! Looking back at previous reviews and photos it's clear this isn't the same chef/owner....Shop bought salami and a sprinkle of fried onion bits doesn't warrant no.4 restuarant in the town. None of the dishes we ordered were very impressive or special. I'm no goument chef but I could have easily cooked every one of them with no special ingredients. There are plenty of other options available in Cassis. I'd suggest you try any one of them instead of La Defonce.More

La Defonce is a hidden gem that we fell in love with while we were in Cassis. The food is delicious. We were fortunate enough to be able to dine here twice during our stay. Reservations are a must. The family members who own La...Defonce are so friendly and helpful. Every dish we ordered was sublime. This will be the first place we return to during our next trip to Cassis.More

We spent half of our time in Paris and half in Cassis and this was, without a doubt, the best meal we had. It was exceptional - every part. The calamari was the best I’ve had. The main course was insanely good. I cannot give...this place enough praise.More

It's a very good and hidden restaurant, with very good options for dinner and the food and wines was lovely.

To find La Defonce, you have to sneak behind the harbour front an sniff around the alleys for a while. The hunt, however, is very rewarding. This second generation family restaurant puts fresh produce, quality food and good cheer centre stage. The menu is limited...to a handfull of select, well presented dishes - and everything from the entrees over the bread to the dessert was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend their black sausage for the main course(!!!) I have a sneaky suspicion (based on the sounds of appreciation from neighbouring tables) that I should be sad about not being a wine drinker here, and my only critique is that beer should be served colder than was the case. With that said, if we ever get the chance to eat here again, we most definitely will. We shuffled of with sated smiles and a feeling of absolutely having gotten our money's worth.More

Hard to find in the alleys of Cassis, this restaurant is a veritable gem. One can choose between a set menu or a la carte, and the set menu is excellent value for money. The service is very knowledgable, accommodating and friendly. In his very...small kitchen, the chef freshly prepares all dishes except the desserts which come from the fridge and have probably been done in the afternoon (yet are very tasty). Definitely worth a visit but do make a reservation or come early.More
