The overall set up is somewhat quirky but in a fantastic way. It is the patron's 500 year old house down the slope from the isolated road up to madonne d'Utelle and marked out by 2 old Citreon vans on the side of the road....The host (who does the whole thing solo) is extremely welcoming and regaled us with local knowledge, stories and explanation about the cuisine. The food was delicious from start to finish - just go with menu du chef. I strongly recommend making the trip for this unique dining experience.More

Had a memorable lunch here after visiting Madone d'Utelle. The chef-patron Sylvain is quite a character. Steep path down to the entrance only for the nimble. Very good home-cooked provencale specialties at a fair price. We liked the creme brulee made with fruit from his...neighbour's tree (expect the full story on each dish!) We'll come back one day.More

We were staying at the B&B opposite (Le Mont d'Olivine) so it was just a walk down the drive and over the road to this place, which is literally in the middle of nowhere and marked by a couple of abandoned Citroen H1 vans on...the side of the road. As you walk down the rickety path towards the rather knackered old building, you're thinking 'this is either going to be a disaster or something really special'. Fortunately it turns out be very special - and quite unlike anywhere else you're going to eat this year, that's for sure. We're greeted by Sylva who it turns out is the greeter, chef-patron, the waiter - and presumably dish-washer too. He does the whole thing, solo. Ignore the gas bills, circulars and general detritus piled up as you come in... That's his hallway and you're eating in his dining room / lounge. In our case, on our own. It was a grim Thursday evening in early June, but if more people knew about this place, it should have been packed. Go for the Choix du Chef, which you'll get a full debrief on - and I mean full - but will all be delicous. Clearly times have been better - we heard tales of cats who'd been eaten by wolves years ago, thousands of drivers who used to pass by but no longer do and there's an amazing terrace which looks like it'd be the best place for dinner al fresco ever, but is now unloved and abandoned. Just go with it... Go here with friends, don't bother with the menu - just eat & drink what you're given - lots of it - and tell your friends. With so many restaurants all being much like each other, this is unique. In a really good way.More

We had a fabulous evening plus a couple of extra visits to this bohemian, artistic, magnificent place full of atmosphere! The chef is a wonderful entertainer and he cooks 4 star menues! We are coming back as soon as we are back in the valley...of Le Vesubie. How to get there: Take the N 202 from Nice up the Var valley; turn right on the D 2565 up the Vesubie valley; turn left on D 32 at St. Jean-la-Riviere. The Aubergerie is about 5 minutes up the road toward Utelle. Reservations: 0033 - 04 93 03 13 12More

a nice small restaurant- don't expect a fancy fashion place but the food is really good and fresh- not frozen ... the chef is a true "character" and has the ability to welcome you in English... I recommend among other well prepared dishes the very...tasty Lemon biscuit the water is very pure and directly comimg from the natural source nearby the rose wine is good, the service a little slow but the owner does everything by himself the price is very reasonable what else can you expect for a true French food experience ? try it I doubt that you will be disappointedMore
