Sauerkraut ("Kraut") was delicious and came with a number of their dishes. I loved my small salad, whose leaves were fresh and flavorful, with a noteworthy homemade dressings. Of course there is plenty of meat on the menu, but vegetarians won't go hungry.

We had a large variety of things, I had the pig's knuckel (Schweinehaxe) with Sauerkraut and bread, some of the other had the Frankfurter Grüner Soße, fried potatoes... More

The food was amazing and real homemade food. The food tasted just like I was taught to by my German gran.

This place offers many old-fashioned regional dishes found practically nowhere else. The atmosphere is very cozy, lots of dark wood, very friendly staff, perfect in summer and in winter!

Down to earth, no frills solid and very tasty food is served here. No worries, you won't go hungry. The staff is good and - most of the time - friendly (unless you rally try to annoy them). Every time I come back to Giessen, I end up here. The place is very popular and has been for years -... More

I guess it is first because being in the center and provides nice atmosphere with good beer and acceptable food for reasonable prices. But food cannot compare with Heiligenstadt restaurant or...
