The people running this cafe are so kind and generous. We were on a tour bus back from the great ocean road when our bus broke down and we were stuck in the middle of the road. The people at Kafe Koala were kind enough to respond to the call of help from our tour guide and provided the bus with ample water for the leaking radiator. While this did not work (we were stuck at the side of the road for an additional 6 hours before a replacement bus came), we really appreciate the kindness and hospitality that Kafe Koala showed us.
Despite it being 7pm with the shop being closed, they reopened it for us again and even gave us some free snacks for the road. They also opened up the toilets for us, which was a godsend. On behalf of us 50-something number of people, sorry for dirtying your toilet after you cleaned it and closed up for the night. Thank you for all your hospitality and help, you guys are amazing.

I can’t review the food, as we went inside merely to have a look, it being on the Julia Bradbury TV programme. Our minibus stopped for us to see the koalas quite late in the day. There didn’t seem to be much food on display and there was a small shop section with a few under stocked shelves. It was small and rather basic looking inside.

We visited Kafe Koala while cycling the great ocean road. The cafe had a great relaxed vibe and I was blown away by some of the unique and delicious homemade offerings.
On sundays the owner sells homemade beignets, which are like french donuts. They were soft, light and fluffy and had a wonderful subtle flavour of orange running through the.. they were seriously addictive!
My partner had a bacon and egg roll, and I tried the spinach and cheese borek. Both were really tasty too. I wish I tried the homemade sausage rolls because they looked really good!
I found the service to have been very friendly and prompt. This was a real gem in our travels.

first of all lacking any hospitality, we ordered chicken nuggets and asked what time their chips finished it was 5:29 and they said 5:30 so we said we will just grab the money from one of our family members waiting out the front, we came straight back in and asked for a large hot chips in which we received a cold reply “sorry you can not order hot chips. you are too late” when we where 1 MINUTE late, absolutely ridiculous, we want the old owners back. Products are also ridiculously overpriced, $6.60 for 1.25L bottle of coke whereas 5 minutes always at Wye River the same coke is $2.85. Some of the items are also out of date! yes there is a covid crisis but these should not be on the shelf.

Was recommended to me on the drive from Geelong to Apollo Bay and did not disappoint. All sandwiches etc are made that morning by the owner and are fantastic. Also the young chap behind the counter is so friendly and gives tips on where to see the koalas in the wild nearby. A high light stop....

I haven't stopped here for years...I guess all those buses were a turnoff. The cafe has very good homemade offerings. The yo yo's were great with the coffee and the chicken and mushroom pies were delightful that night for dinner. A friendly cafe on the Great Ocean Road with lots of attention to their homemade cuisine. Very good coffee in a relaxing location on the west coast. Highly recommended.

Given the location - very isolated - I’ve upgraded the score to 4 stars. The coffee was not great, but I really needed a caffeine fix and this place delivered it. There was limited food available, but I believe that was more down to the quiet downturn from covid. Still, it made for a great trip for us.

We decided to visit this cafe for lunch and to see a koala. This is a cafe not a restaurant. The staff were friendly. The soup was good but if you like burgers I suggest going elsewhere. We didn’t see a koala but did see beautiful parrots. All up I think this place is a bit overrated.

Stopped in here for coffee and hoping to spy a koala. Coffees were great, as was the seating area out front in the sunshine. Lots of snack options and friendly service .. and we saw some koalas! (directly across the road on a street full of gum trees)

Waited 5mins, didn’t get served. Guy making coffee didn’t even acknowledge us and the other guy ignored us and went to refill the fridge with drinks. We walked out extremely disappointed, without a coffee. Definitely not the friendly vibes of a small costal business it used to be.

I was on a tour for the Great Ocean Road. I enjoyed my falafel wrap and strawberry rhubarb tart. I also picked up a Vanilla Coke and magnets. I also bought a healthy muffin with grains and fruit. Just watch out for birds as they’re eager to share. Keep an eye out for the 🐨 in the trees.

Great place to stop as you drive westward on Great Ocean Road . If you walk up Grey River Road, there are many eucalyptus trees and the koalas live here. We saw a few of them. (not hard to miss as there are buses and a number of people walking to look for koalas).
They were sleeping in the trees but were our first sighting while in Australia in the wild so we were quite excited about it.
The cafe food and coffee were okay.

The remarkable memory of the stay is mainly the surroundings where we could spot kangaroos and koalas in their wild environment, through a nice stroll and following the advice of the cafe staff. Very colorful and cheeky parrots will entertain you at the bar entrance :-)

Stopped by for coffee and cake. Very friendly service and the cakes were great. Can be very busy when busses arrive, but we came early before the rush.
