We went to the merry monk for a confirmation meal as we though it was a nice intimate place to have a meal as it was just close family going to it so I booked a table a week in advance to make sure we had a table incase it was busy when we got there they had no idea... More

I've visited the Merry Monk several times in the past year or so. Never had a complaint about the taste of the food and more often than not the portions are too big for me. But the best part of the Merry Monk is it's staff. I'm a total stranger just callin in but they are as friendly to me... More

Amazing! This proprietor did a full funeral buffet today for a past workers husband Pro bono! He is amazing in my book... food was fantastic!! Now im pretty sure he doesn't go around giving out free meals all the time!!! He'd go bust if you did lol !! But to do this, today, was just amazing! There is only one... More

This restaurant was recommended to me this past October whilst I was exploring the area near Ballina... Known for their carvery, the meal was lukewarm, vegetables over cooked and tasteless...Won't be back.

Good food, excellent staff. Catering for old and young. A really good experience and dealt very well with large numbers.

We had tickets to see a play at the Ballina Arts Theater. We (Three of us) decided to eat at the Merry Monk based on my experience from stopping in for lunch one day and having a GREAT luncheon special off their carving station. My two friends (Ballina residents) had never been to this restaurant. All three of us had... More

Visited Saturday lunchtime about 1.30 with a group of family/friends to celebrate my friends birthday. Will start with the positives, the young staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful at all times and nothing was too much trouble for them. that, sadly is where it stops, the food was at best warm and pretty tasteless, I had the ham and whilst... A great choice of carvery, four meats and fish dish were available. Roast potatoes, creamed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, three veg, gravy and sauces were also on offer. Reasonably priced and a quick service. The place was reasonably clean and sufficient staff to keep tables cleared and available.

Sounds lovely you might say but oh my it came with massive bones, no onions & the ends of tomatoes that I throw away! Also it had about... More
